We have carefully reviewed all the game mechanics that complicate survival in Minecraft, and described them in detail to help you better understand the capabilities of the Tough As Nails mod and the changes it brings to gameplay.

This addition can seriously complicate the survival process and will be interesting for both novice players who have recently joined Minecraft, and advanced users who are already bored with vanilla survival and want to try something new. At the same time, the mod does not bring imbalance or any special options to the game.

It adds several factors that can affect your character. Although you can control some of them in order to keep Steve in a normal state.

New Survival Mechanics

The Tough As Nails add-on brings several new factors and mechanics to Minecraft that change the survival process in the game. It adds a new thirst bar that changes in much the same way as the hunger bar. There are also climatic factors such as heat and cold, so players will have to keep an eye on the temperature of the biomes they are in to avoid dying from hypo- or hyperthermia. Thirst and Drinking Mechanics

At the bottom of the screen, players will see a separate thirst bar, which they will have to keep a good eye on. If they forget about it, their character can start losing HP. The more active the character is (moving, running, fighting), the faster it loses water, which is quite normal for the mod.

When the water bar is full, all icons are blue, when it is empty, they are black. The only way to fill the bar is to use any container to drink. This means you cannot just walk up to a lake and drink. You need something to help you do this. You can use standard bottles that are used for potions in the vanilla version of Minecraft.

It is best to drink from a river, lake, or other large body of water such as the ocean. You can get clean, though not perfect, water from there. In «extreme» cases, you can always get water from a puddle or even a swamp. The problem is that it is more harmful to the character and can cause it the «thirst effect».

By default, each bottle of water restores 1.5 units of the thirst bar to your character, while water from a puddle restores only 0.5 units. As you can see, the difference is significant, and besides, there is a chance to additionally get a negative effect. As soon as the thirst bar drops to the last unit, the character will begin to lose health, which will continue until it drinks water.

Juices in Minecraft

In addition to water, players can also drink juices. There are different ways to create them. You can store 16 juices per slot, which is very convenient (for comparison, 1 bottle of water takes up 1 slot in the inventory). That is why they are the best choice to carry with you to quench your thirst at any time.

The game includes 7 new types of juices, each of them restores a certain number of thirst units and has its own recipe. Below you can see a list of juices and some screenshots of how to make them:

· Glowberry juice

· Chorus Fruit juice

· Cactus juice

· Apple juice

· Melon juice

· Pumpkin juice

· Sweet Berry juice.

If you choose according to the ratio of crafting costs/number of bottles, then the most profitable option is melon juice since melon blocks can be divided into a large number of slices needed for crafting.

New Items

The Tough As Nails mod also adds several new items to the game to make survival with the new mechanics a little easier.

Water Purifier

Water purifier is an extremely important and useful block in Minecraft that helps you clean any kind of water, including that collected from a puddle or a swamp. If you want to get clean water, you will have to stock up on wood, because the item uses charcoal as a material for water purification.

Each bottle of such water can restore you 2.5 thirst points, which is even better than all the previous options. However, in order to properly purify water from a swamp, you will have to repeat the process with the purifier twice. In general, it is quite an interesting gameplay process that adds some extra variety to vanilla Minecraft.

Rain Collector

There is no need to go around water bodies to collect water. Another option is to use a rain collector, which you can craft and place on the ground. It will collect any water droplets that fall on its surface, so you can always walk up to the item and take water from there.

Canteen

Canteen is a universal item that players can fill with water and use 5 times. In other words, they can drink from it 5 times, which is more convenient than carrying a lot of bottles. In the screenshots below you can see how to create the item. Taking multiple canteens at once will significantly increase your water supply, but at the same time will take up additional space in your inventory.

These are changes related to thirst, water, and various items for storing liquids, however, the mod also adds other features such as temperatures, namely heat and cold.

Temperatures and New Effects

Players will now be affected by temperatures, especially when visiting different biomes. For example, in a snowy biome, they can get frostbite and die from low temperatures. In turn, when moving through a savanna or a desert, they can simply burn in the sun.

The temperature in Minecraft is displayed as a small round icon between the health bar and the hunger and thirst bars. When the player is in a comfortable environment, the circle is gray. But there are also other states:

· A blue or teal icon means that it is getting colder, and the closer you get to the snowy biome or go deeper into it, the faster the freezing effect will appear;

· A snowflake means that it is very cold. At this temperature players start to take damage if they do not have a suitable protective armor set;

· An orange or red icon means that it is hot. The state changes depending on the biome the player is in as well as their proximity to the lava;

· A flame icon means an extreme state of overheating. The character begins to take heat damage when this symbol appears. In this case, you need to leave the place or cool the character. You can find out how to do this below.

Dealing with Temperatures

There are several ways to cope with extreme temperatures and survive in the Minecraft game world with the new Tough As Nails modification.

1. Take a dip in the water to cool off;

2. Place a powder snow block and stand close to it until the heat effect disappears;

3. Change the biome you are currently in;

4. If you are cold, use a campfire to keep warm;

5. Go out into the sun, but keep in mind that this method does not work in all biomes;

6. Use the new armor sets that this mod provides. These are wool armor and leaf armor.

Additional Armor Sets

Wool armor is meant to be worn when the character is cold. It is great to explore snowy and cold biomes in the game. You can use wool of any color as an ingredient, but the set will always be the default color. Players can always recolor the armor with dyes, it will not lose its properties.

Leaf armor can be crafted from the leaves of any tree. The crafting process is the same as for standard Minecraft armor, so it will not cause you any difficulties. The armor is great for hot biomes, as it cools the character's body, preventing it from getting sunstroke. However, note that this armor does not provide any damage protection, so you cannot use it to participate in PvP. One of the advantages of this set is that it automatically changes color depending on the biome you are currently in.

These are all the features that the Tough As Nails mod provides. Now any player can diversify the Minecraft gameplay with the new different mechanics. Although they complicate the survival process, they make the game much more interesting, especially for those who have already explored the vanilla world and want to try something new.
