Steve's Vanilla: Cool Animals in Vanilla Minecraft's Style

There are a lot of mods that add new animal species to Minecraft, which can be both global add-ons featuring hundreds of different mobs and less large-scale options that add only a certain set of creatures. This time, we will focus on a very promising mod called Steve's Vanilla.

This mod adds only a few new mobs to the game, but each of them is worked out in detail, can boast unique characteristics, appearance, and features, and is at the same time as close as possible to vanilla Minecraft without spoiling the familiar balance of the gameplay and development.

New Animal Species

Three new mobs have been added at the moment, two of which, by the way, were recently removed by the developers for refining, and in the last update of early June, they have not yet been returned back. We are going to review version 0.3.7, where all of them were present. The Steve's Vanilla mod of this version features:

1. Chest Toad;

2. Boggord;

3. Sheep Leg.

Chest Toad

The appearance of this creature cannot but impress users. This toad is really huge and is certainly uncomparable to the frogs added in version 1.19 of Minecraft, so it is a truly unique mob. But unfortunately, it has no practical application by now.

It jumps very high and slightly resembles the slime. It was perhaps indeed created based on the behavior patterns of the latter. It does not deal damage to the player but can stick to you so tightly in a jump that you can only remove it by killing. Neither Shift nor teleportation will work.

You can breed the toads in Minecraft with the help of water hyacinths — unique flowers growing in the swamp. It will be enough to pick this plant and feed it to several mobs. As soon as they mate, another mob will appear — it will be about the same size as adults, though. There are no tadpoles here as in the vanilla game version, so the breeding principle is slightly different.

Boggord

It is a very interesting and eye-pleasing mob that resembles a huge bull. It was given a cool name, Boggord, and its appearance is particularly noteworthy. As soon as you see such an animal in the game, take a close look at its animation — this is a unique feature of this mod, as the developers have added several interesting effects for each mob.

The boggord is a neutral mob that does not react to the player in any way. It spawns mainly in snowy mountains and can often be found with a layer of snow on its back. The latter can be removed by using a shovel in the active slots. In the same way, you can also throw the snow on its back.

The boggord is ridable. To ride it, you will need to craft a unique fishing rod with a mountain bud. Just install a saddle on the animal, put a fishing rod with a bud into the active slot, and start moving.

During the ride, the mob will periodically sway from side to side. It cannot really boast the movement speed, though.

Boggords can be bred using the fruits of the mountain buds. As a result, small calves are born, which, by the way, they may not have snow on their backs, and you will not be able to throw it there until the animal becomes an adult. It must be said that these mobs love mountain buds, so when they see the mature plants, they run to them, take a bud in their mouth, and run with it. It is unclear why they behave like that, but they currently do nothing with this flower. Even so, all this looks very cool.

When you kill a boggord, it will drop a certain amount of wool and vanilla steaks. The wool can be subsequently used for crafting the soaked wool and a wool block.

By the way, this creature can be milked since it has an udder. Its milk does not remove any effects but is used in potion brewing. There is also a new separate branch of achievements, where you will be awarded for the first ride on a boggord and other activities.

Sheep Leg

It can be considered the most poorly designed and unfinished mob by now, which is added mainly as an extra creature with an unusual appearance. It spawns in the mountains, including snowy ones. It resembles a sheep but is slightly taller and has two black horns that distinguish it from similar types of mobs.

It features a unique animation when receiving damage, just like the boggord, but drops nothing at all. According to the developers, it should eat apples but actually does not do that at the moment. It is afraid of the players, so as soon as it sees you, it will immediately run away. In any case, it looks quite beautiful and stylish, and, most likely, we will be able to use its horns to craft some interesting things in the future.

In creative mode, you can use the spawn eggs of all the three mobs. But we should warn you again that in the latest version, released in early July, some mobs were still not added back. So, to test all the described content, you should download version 0.3.7.

These are all the features of the Steve's Vanilla mod at the moment. The developers have ambitious plans and are regularly releasing updates, so there are reasons to hope that they will not abandon their add-on and will listen to the feedback from players on forums and themed resources.
