Scarecrows – a scarecrow to protect from mobs

Sooner or later, any territory in Minecraft will be attacked by mobs, which can happen both at the start of the game and in any other moment. Some players are even attacked every day if they’ve chosen a corresponding biome. For example, zombies, creepers, and skeletons spawn at night, when the area is poorly lit, and you can’t avoid it. Sometimes, creepers sneak up too close – so close that you don’t even have time to notice them. And if you’ve dealt with such situations, you can install the Scarecrows mod, which will add different types of scarecrows to Minecraft. They will help you protect your buildings…

The Scarecrows add-on adds 6 types of scarecrows to Minecraft, including 3 different types. That is, each scarecrow has 2 appearance options, and it’s up to the player to decide, which one to use on their territory. They differ in the interaction area, territory coverage, appearance, and other unique features. At the time of writing the review, this mod has been downloaded more than 200 thousand times, and players could already download Scarecrows for Minecraft 1.20.4, although the launcher version was released only a couple of days ago.

The Scarecrows mod review

There are 3 levels of scarecrows in Minecraft, each of them having a particular area coverage. Accordingly, the higher the level, the larger the area the scarecrow covers. Almost all the scarecrow versions can be crafted using the same method as golems in the vanilla version of the game – install Jack’s Lantern as a head and add a few blocks. If you decide to remove a scarecrow, just break one of the blocks, preferably the lowest one, and the whole structure will collapse. Well, it’s time to look at each scarecrow in the game in detail…

The first level

It includes the simplest structures, whose coverage area is minimal, accordingly. You can craft a «Spoopy Scarecrow» or a «Super Spoopy Scarecrow». They are 2 blocks high, and if the mob penetrates the territory, the creature will act within a 10-block radius. In the screenshot, you can see what these two options look like.

The second level

Here, you already see 3-block-high structures with a 25-block radius. As you can see, the coverage area is twice larger, and if you are going to defend your territory in Minecraft, then this is a perfect option. There are also a «Spooky Scarecrow» и «Super Spooky Scarecrow» here.

The third level

Are you ready for the most interesting thing? On the third level, you can craft a 4-block-high scarecrow. They cover an area of 50 blocks, which is twice larger than in the previous version (level 2), and 4 times larger than in the first version. These creatures’ look is impressive, although this structure can by no means scare the player.

But that’s not all! If you are a project administrator or a map owner, you can use the configuration file to set the radius for each scarecrow. That is, you can increase or decrease it if you want or make them affect only mobs or animals too. As a result, you get a convenient functionality where each player can customize the game parameters.

When crafting each scarecrow, you must take all the blocks and sequences into account so that they can actually perform their tasks. If you set them in a wrong way, the mobs will be able to enter the territory. If you want, you can even use a mob summoning egg to spawn them and see if they will penetrate or not. Once the scarecrow is installed, it will slightly change its size. We’ve made some of the screenshots with ordinary blocks (before transformation), and some with reborn scarecrows. The second version looks cooler, and you won’t be able to break them even if you hit them on the head. Here, you need to break the base of the entire structure.

We’ve shown you all the options available for crafting in the Scarecrows mod. If you want a scarecrow to become smaller, as you can see in most of our screenshots, then put «Jack’s Head» last. Then the mob will slightly come to life and become smaller in size. If you put it first, then the entire structure will remain in a «block» form, and it will perform no functions in the game world. From now on, mobs will avoid your territories in Minecraft, thus creating additional protection measures for your base.

In general, you can see that the Scarecrows add-on features are rather extensive, although it adds only 3 different types of scarecrows to the game. Pay attention to the sequence of installing blocks to make everything work. By the way, you can look at the screenshot where we showed how many different blocks and materials you need to easily create any scarecrows in the game. There are few of them, and most of them are available at the middle of development. The only drawback is that the Scarecrows mod utilizes blocks from all three dimensions.
