Review Getlin II

Getlin II

The second part of the Getlin mod that adds new biomes, structures, mobs and a bit more of content, which will make survival by times more interesting. The Getlin dimension is one large island in the middle of nowhere as before, but even on this island the author managed to create everything the player needs to survive.

The first steps

Since we are talking about a new dimension, the first steps begin with crafting a portal that will transfer the player to the required location. To craft the portal to the Getlin world, you’ll need blocks of gold and a special activator. To craft the portal frame, you can use a scheme similar to the one for the vanilla hell portal.

To craft the activator, you’ll need a cobblestone block and one Redstone.

Next, just click on the portal frame with the activator and set on an adventure.

Biomes and structures

We can hardly call the items located on the island a full-fledged biome, but now the dimension has definitely got more content. Rather deep caves made of Getlin-stone appeared under the island, and new trees – so-called big oaks – are located on the island surface.

The local flora has also been complemented with berry bushes that you can pick up and eat.

And new structures have been formed in the middle of the steppe – houses of various traders.

One of them is the Magician, who sells various magic items for the in-game currency, including a teleport, a fireball, or a special shield that imposes a few powerful protective effects on the player when active.

The Bladesmith, who sells various swords with rather good characteristics for the same in-game currency.

And the Barman, selling alcohol that restores your health and hunger pretty well, but causes the Poisoning effect if used too often.

The in-game currency is extremely easy to earn. You can either collect rubies and exchange them for gold from a suitable trader, or you can kill mobs. You earn a coin for one mob or 10 coins if it’s the first time you killed this kind of mob.

Mobs

This part of the mod adds a few new mobs to the game.

The first category of mobs is companions. There are only four of them – Natalie, who just follows the player, a miner, a woodcutter, and a swordsman. Depending on their profession, they’ll follow you and help you with what they can.

The fifth humanoid mob is Olan Hardmir. You can accidentally run into him in the world. He’s not a companion but isn’t eager to become a trader either. He appears from time to time and disappears just as quickly. He sells magic boxes for rubies.

Peaceful mobs have even more moderate representation than humans.

Bognree – a large blue land fish with wings. It looks like a full-face catfish, like a sting ray from above, and like a dead bird from all other angles. It’s actually useless and just floats in one point. If you start attacking it, it will just fly to another place.

Venix. A red bird that resembles a phoenix but without wings. The game calls it a big chicken. The mob is peaceful, it just stands still when attacked and indifferently waits for death.

Rifinie. A golem’s essence, a robot’s behavior, a dangerous one’s look, but in fact it’s absolutely indifferent to both the player and other mobs. It mostly keeps standing still, moving over a couple of blocks from time to time.

And this part adds as few as two aggressive mobs.

Manox – a large bone worm with rather strong attacks and a very clingy character. Always reacts to the player from far away and immediately rushes to attack. Far from a boss in terms of health, but 20 HP hearts make it a worthy opponent, especially if you have vanilla weapons and armor.

Titineris looks like a very flattened tiger and a striped water bear at the same time. It’s weak as a hostile mob and practically never shows its aggression towards the player. It just walks around quietly, sometimes causing a moderate helf-HP damage to the player.

Skill menu

By default, you can open your personal skill menu by clicking the «m» button. On the first page, you can see how much money you have, check your level, or level up certain indicators, such as boost your health, impact power, or magic.

The second menu page generally contains the same information, but in a little more detail. Choose what you need and upgrade your character to a local deity level.

Aggression scale – is something you see on the right side of the screen all the time. When you kill mobs, your aggression grows, and when it reaches a critical level, you get a few useful buffs for a while. Usually these are strength, agility, defense, and other things that come in handy in a battle.

Weapons and armor

If there is a place to feel the author’s love for cheats, it’s the weapons and armor tab. There are a lot of Weapons here, which aren’t crafted, but must be bought from a blacksmith. And they are really a little cheating. The most moderate sword that is available almost immediately after you get into the dimension, already has +7 damage. Although costing 150 coins and requiring a 10-level upgrade to be used, the most fascinating axe makes the player a local boss, because it has +30 damage and knocks all mobs out with one blow.

There’s enough of armor as well – as many as 9 kits. However, it’s currently unclear how to get it. Perhaps, an armor maker or someone who sells it will be added to the mod later, because the mod offers neither crafting recipes, nor items that can presumably be used to craft it. The problems are the same with armor as with weapons – it’s slightly unbalancing and insures extremely high protection both at the beginning and in the maximum possible configuration, with even a breastplate itself having +20 protection.

But in general, if you don’t worry about such things and just want to relax in a cool new Minecraft, these solutions by the author can’t even be called disadvantages.
