Deeper Dark

This mod adds to Minecraft what most fans of the 1.19.2 update dreamed of — an altogether new dark and gloomy dimension filled with horrors and sculk. So that very ancient city portal will no longer be a mere decoration and become exactly what it was supposed to be, namely a point of transition into the Deeper Dark.

Initial Steps

To activate the portal, you will need to first find an ancient city and make sure that the portal frame is intact and not overgrown with the sculk veins. Then, you will have to make an effort and not die, as you will not just have to face a warden but also manage to click on it with an empty bottle to capture its soul.

Then click on the portal with this bottle and... Well, are you still sure you want to go on a journey to such a truly dark, gloomy, cruel, and dangerous dimension? If so, be sure to stock up on as many night vision potions as possible, as torches inside the eternal darkness are almost useless.

Environment

Inside the Deeper Dark, it is indeed very dark. All because of the special new blocks of pure black color occasionally intermixed with sculk blocks and uncommon small flowers. Yes, you heard right, this dimension is entirely underground, and you will have to dig as deep as possible to find yourself in underground caves.

As for vegetation, the mod features black trees, black vines, sculk sensors, and blue-white flowers that nicely dilute the oppressive atmosphere. The loot chests you will come across are also black, so your task will not just be to get to them but also to discern them in the surrounding darkness in the first place.

Armor, Tools, and Weapons

In the local loot chests, besides echo shards from the vanilla Minecraft, you will find the new items — the spirit tokens. The latter can be both intact and as shards. It is very important to collect both item types since it is from them that you will have to craft your new armor and tools.

The armor added by the mod strikingly resembles a warden's skin. In terms of the characteristics, it is something in between the diamond and netherite armor. It is crafted in the standard way.

The new tools and weapons are also standard: the pickaxe, shovel, axe, sword, and hoe. They are comparable to the netherite ones — thus, the sword deals eight damage. They are also created from the spirit tokens and echo shards combined according to the usual recipes.

Mobs

The mod brings quite a large number of mobs, but all of them are virtually vanilla mobs with slightly reworked textures, which are more suitable for the atmosphere of the Deep Dark.

A few truly unique mobs, like the friendly mini warden, sculkling, or sculk stalkers are quite unremarkable, as all of them are weak enough to pose a particular danger to a trained player.

Misc

The mod also adds some quite nice decorations for those who like dark design. They come down to a couple of vases, new glass, a new lantern, jars, and signs. The head and other parts of a warden, which can be used as a trophy, are particularly noteworthy.
