Schools of Magic: Second Semester

A small mod that adds magic, spells, and tea to the world of Minecraft. A letter from the school of magic, your personal magic wand, spells and charms, magic books floating on pedestals… and tea. Many different kinds of tea. What does it have in common? Many things, because tea – is also a potion, so it’s magic.

First steps

The mod favorably differs from many others, since you need to complete a small quest before you start the game and get the coveted Instruction Book. Your first task is to find and kill a witch to get her letter from the magic school. She drops the letter together with other vanilla items.

Open the letter, read a brief mod background, and get your first magic task. According to the author of the mod, tasks differ, but a potion-making task is the most common. To complete it, you need to craft any potion on the Potion Maker.

Upon completing the task, you’ll receive a reward – your first (and only) magic book with a list of recipes and crafts the mod adds. The book has been translated into many languages, and everything is absolutely clear and simple there. Actually, it’s a complete mod guide.

Magic items

The magic wand – your first magic item you need to craft. You can do it on the workbench using a stick, a gold ingot, and a diamond. It has 4 power levels. To upgrade the wand, you should add another diamond to the existing wand on the blacksmith’s table.

You will use this magic wand to create all the spells that you can learn. The more powerful the wand, the more powerful your spells will be.

The second magic item – the Pedestal. It’s crafted on the Stonecutter from any stone block. You need the pedestal to store a book on it and have quick access to all the spells at any time.

After placing the Book on the Pedestal, you can flip through it, read it, and study its spells. For this, left-click on the book’s bottom corners.

To take the spell, approach the Pedestal, open the Book on the page you need, and right-click on the Pedestal holding the Shift button. Next, you’ll see a magical addition to your menu on the screen. There, you can track your mana amount and the upgrade level.

You can simultaneously carry four spells in the spell slots. The slot itself is opened by a random keyboard button, which you set yourself, and you can scroll through the spells with the mouse wheel. To activate a spell, hold the RMB on the object.

Tea making

Tea making is the second interesting mechanic added by the mod. Indeed, it’s even more interesting than magic. Tea is not just a nutritious liquid, but also a substitute for the common vanilla potions with a variety of favorable effects.

Tea-making items

Delicious tea is made from dried herbs, and Minecraft is no exception. So, first you need to prepare as many herbal threads as possible. Its recipe is extremely simple – to unite a thread and herbs on the workbench.

Fix the thread hanging on the ceiling or beam. Next, on this thread you can hang the flowers for drying and wait for a while. There are 6 such flowers – poppy, dandelion, cornflower, blue orchid, lily of the valley, and welsh onion.

Then, you should craft a Mortar. It’s quite simple, but can be crafted from diorite, andesite, or granite blocks only.

The mortar has its menu, where you can find a brief crafting section. Put a dry plant in the empty slots and click on the pestle above. After a few motions, you’ll get ground plants that you can add to your tea.

Then, you should craft a Teapot. To craft it, you need to find any ceramics, grind it in the mortar, mix the resulting powder with a bucket of water on the workbench, and use the resulting material to make a teapot blank on the same workbench. Next, you’ll have to burn it in the oven, and then proceed to your tea party.

To be able to pour and drink tea, you’ll need a Cup. The cup is crafted according to the same principle as the teapot, but from white ceramics only. To make it more aesthetic, complement the Cup with a Saucer.

To make tea, you should put the teapot above an open fire. For this, put any burning or lava block under the Teapot block. Then, open the Teapot menu, add a bucket of water and any three ground flowers into it, and wait for it to boil. To pour tea in the cup when it’s ready, place the cup in the slot for a bucket of water.

From six dried flowers available, you can get tea, sweet water, or hot chocolate. The latter two types of tea are respectively made from ground cocoa beans and sugar. Each tea implies different effects just like vanilla potions, but for a much shorter period. Sometimes, you can randomly get negative effects.

Other blocks

In addition to tea and magic, the mod adds new wood blocks and various crafts from them to the game. Everything is good about the blocks – their texture, and crafting options, and perspective. But they have one significant drawback. Since the mod hasn’t been finished, it’s impossible to find trees to get these blocks in the world – they simply don’t exist. So, the only way to get new blocks is to take them from the creative mode.
