Review HexLands II

HexLands II – «Honeycom»-type territory

Any world generated in Minecraft will always be created according to a certain algorithm. For example, it may be large islands or hundreds of biomes, a flat world, but you won’t see anything new and surprising, since the Mojang developers have introduced nothing of the kind recently. You can download third-party maps, but everything is predetermined there, isn’t it? We offer you to use the HexLands II mod that will add a new type of map generation – honeycombs. Can you imagine what they look like? That’s about the same way new types of biomes will be generated in the game.

When creating maps in Minecraft, the mod will allow you to generate a new kind of game landscapes in the game with as many as 2 options at once: common hexagonal biomes in the standard world and in all dimensions at once, if you want to cover the Nether and the End. This is a really convenient option, because not all players are ready to test, especially in such small dimensions as the End and the Nether. But it’s worth trying anyway, because you’ll never create these areas in manual mode, and there has been nothing similar among the created maps…

The HexLands II mod review

It should be mentioned at once that this isn’t a map, but a mod that allows you to select a new generation type in a couple of clicks when creating saves in Minecraft. You could make flat worlds, islands, and worlds with many biomes before, but after installing the HexLands II add-on, you’ll get 2 more types: HexLands and HexLands (Overworld). These options will be available when selecting a map. That is, you’ll need to open the launcher, select a new map, go to advanced settings, and select a new option (honeycombs) there. Next, the generation process will begin, and after a few seconds (some may need a couple of minutes), you’ll find yourself in an absolutely new cubic world.

The gist of the HexLands II mod is to add hexagonal biomes, which will really have separate locations. For example, there will be a jungle, a sand biome, a birch forest, coral reefs and much more located nearby. However, their area, of course, will be by times smaller than in the vanilla version of the game. But they can be repeated, which mainly depends on the generated map. Besides, all hexagonal areas have equal size, which looks very unusual. Masonry is used to separate all the territories, but you can remove it if you don’t like it. But in this case the boundaries will no longer be clear, as the HexLands II mod developer initially intended.

Some biomes appear without borders, and there is no way to fix it. For example, if it’s several biomes with forests or water areas that border each other, they simply merge or have unclear boundaries. In this case, you’ll have to tackle all the downsides yourself or just ignore such trifles. In general, the HexLands II add-on has a few advantages that are worth talking about, and we have highlighted several points:

· The opportunity to choose a preset both for the ordinary world and for all dimensions. All of these are configured when creating and generating a new map, so you won’t be able to do anything with your old saves in Minecraft;

· Each hexagon contains one biome only. It can be both deserts and jungles, water worlds, forests and much more. At the same time, a lot depends on the game version;

· Automatic compatibility with all mods that add new worlds to the game. For example, if the «Mysterious Forest» appears in the game, it can also be generated as a honeycomb in the HexLands II add-on;

· The opportunity to customize the world with data packs. The developer added a separate documentation, where he described all the customization options for the created world. Data packs provide a wide range of options, and the mod owner has also added many interesting chips for you, but it will rather be more interesting to creators of different maps and locations;

· A perfect option for servers. For example, you decided to make a kind of world with game events and arenas to diversify the players’ usual gameplay. The HexLands II mod will allow you to create mini-territories of the equal size, avoiding any manual generation.

The process of interacting with this add-on is as simple as possible – when creating a new map, just select a generation type and enjoy the result. Keep in mind that it’s the entire territory that changes completely, and even if you try to teleport to coordinates, for example, tens of thousands of blocks away, you’ll still see the same «honeycombs». All you can change by default is to choose whether the new system affects the «Nether» and the «End» or not. The spawn of the creatures remains the same as it used to be. Everything depends on the specific biome, but you should understand that the territories in the «honeycombs» have become by times smaller, and fewer mobs can spawn per square meter in Minecraft, respectively.
