The behavior of mobs in Minecraft is stereotyped. Thus, if we see a zombie in front of us, we can hide from it in blocks, get on a hill, or try to run off several blocks. When it comes to a creeper, you can run up to it and immediately run back so that this mob explodes. Similar principles apply to, and certain techniques exist for every hostile in-game creature, but over time, that begins to look too straightforward and not quite natural. You eventually realize that mobs behave stupidly and can be deceived in a couple of clicks.
A mod called Enhanced AI was created to fix this situation. It completely reworks the artificial intelligence of many in-game creatures, making them smarter and inventive, and adds many new features and options. Each mob has been approached manually and so has acquired specific changes that you will immediately notice after installing the mod. And if you want to learn about the innovations, we recommend reading our article to the end.
For the mod to work correctly, you need to install the InsaneLib library. However, if you use TLauncher, the system will automatically install it along with the mod. It can boast numerous changes that can be divided into several sections.
These changes affect all the in-game mobs in the Nether, the Overworld, and the End:
· Mobs will instantly target the player, in contrast to the old system, where that was accomplished only at certain ticks with a certain chance.
· It is better for the player to avoid explosions, including those of creepers — otherwise, there is a great chance of dying.
· Thanks to an X-ray system, mobs now see the player at a distance of 24–28 blocks within or 12–24 blocks beyond the line of sight.
· Mobs now swim ca 2.5 times faster, and that is a serious threat if you are fighting underwater creatures, say, the same drowned.
· Monsters cannot be locked up in boats or minecarts. While previously you could treat villagers in that way to get a discount on the purchase of goods, now you will have to develop other approaches.
· Monsters can quickly target the stairs to move faster through such blocks.
Some important changes relate exclusively to creepers, and the developer of the Enhanced AI mod has done serious work in this regard as well:
· Creepers have acquired the Walking Fuse property, which gives them a 10% chance to walk at the moment when they explode, although, by default, they stand when they explode.
· A creeper has a 10% chance to explode through walls thanks to the Ignore Walls property, and that will cause additional damage to the player, even if they hid.
· There is a 7.5% chance for a creeper to spawn with the Breach property. It will then try to make holes in the wall to let other mobs through. An interesting mechanic, isn't it?
· This mob can trigger a new effect called Launch with a 5% chance. In this case, the creeper ignites when it explodes and runs to the player to inflict additional damage to them.
· There is a 2% chance for a creeper to spawn in the form of a unique mob with a strong blast wave.
· Skeletons will now spawn up to 32 blocks away from the player, which will create extra problems. However, that is also an opportunity to build more versatile automated farms even in the vanilla version without relocating the spawners.
· Skeletons are now more accurate and have a chance of about 50% to escape from the player if they get too close. They can also shoot the player with a 50% chance at that very moment.
· They have a 33.3% chance of strafing, as strafing is disabled for them in this mod by default.
· There is a 2% chance for the skeletons to get the Spammer effect, which will allow them to shoot very quickly, accurately, and practically without reloading the bow.
· A spider can now spawn as the Web Thrower with about a 10% chance. It will throw cobwebs at the player, trying to slow them down.
· Cave spiders take 90% damage from falls and poison their targets. Those who have played the vanilla Minecraft will appreciate these innovations, as such mechanics have always been lacking in the game.
· A witch will now not chase the player if they disappear from its line of sight, whereas earlier it simply followed the user like a robot.
· Witches now throw much more potions and do it faster.
· The potions will linger with a 15% chance.
· They will now be able to use the invisibility potion to escape from you in a random direction.
· Witches now use potions and milk to remove negative effects from themselves.
· They have a new effect called Dark Arts that allows them to summon and kill a villager to transform it into a witch with a 33% chance.
Zombies are one of the most popular and frequently found mobs in Minecraft, which has also undergone major changes in terms of mechanics and behavior:
· A zombie has a 7% chance of spawning as the Mining Zombie. It will break blocks to get to the player as quickly as possible. Such mobs are equipped with a wooden pickaxe, but by default, they cannot mine resources above the sea level.
· Besides, a zombie can spawn in the form of a builder that will place blocks to get to the player, say, if you are at a height at that moment.
· Zombies can now use ender pearls to quickly teleport to the target and have two pearls with a 4% chance.
In this section, we are going to consider the minor changes of specific mobs. All these innovations, though, seriously affect the behavior and attack of the in-game creatures:
· The drowned now have an increased swimming speed, which can be adjusted in the settings;
· Endermen can now teleport the player if they fail to reach them. So be ready for the possibility of just finding yourself in a random place next to this mob.
· Ghasts now shoot three fireballs at once and have a 30% chance of hitting the target right away, even if it is beyond their field of vision. Moreover, they will shoot much faster than in the vanilla game version.
· Villagers now attack players who have a low reputation, which basically depends on their attitude toward them.
The potential of the Enhanced AI mod is broad, and we have tried to list the main changes for specific mobs, along with the overall mechanics. The developer has done a great job creating such a universal add-on and diversifying the life of players on servers. Moreover, all these innovations actually fit with the vanilla style of survival, making it slightly more complicated. So prepare for mob attacks and more elaborate AI. Mobs can now cooperate to kill the player faster, and that will be quite a common situation.
In the settings of the Enhanced AI mod, the user can always adjust different parameters as they see fit since the developer has provided all the means for everyone to disable some parameters altogether or make some values even higher. In this regard, each player decides what behavior of the in-game mobs they want to see for themselves.
