Have you ever thought about security in Minecraft? For such a purpose, you could set traps with sticky pistons, build extra fortifications, or add NPCs for protection if a server and your build allowed that. However, there is another option: to place cameras around your territory and observe what is happening, entirely controlling the perimeter. That is possible thanks to a mod called CCTV camera, which will add cameras, a laptop, an OS emulator, and an elaborate GUI, where everything is done in a couple of clicks, to Minecraft.
At the moment, the CCTV camera add-on is still in the beta stage and can contain bugs and some flaws, but the designer occasionally releases updates and improves these points. The cameras are controlled from a laptop, which looks very similar to its real counterpart, but, unfortunately, its texture leaves much to be desired. The features of the mod are not that numerous, but the already-implemented options are quite worthy of being tested.
The main task of the CCTV camera mod is to add a tool that would allow you to observe your territory remotely. Suppose you have a mansion in one biome and a farm in another. That is very convenient if you are playing on a server with a large number of users. There is another scenario: for example, you can place the cameras in some far biome or other dimension where you need to monitor mobs. Besides, you can use them at farms. In short, the applications are numerous, and many players will certainly be interested in the CCTV camera add-on.
The mod adds three items to the game: the tripod, camera, and laptop. They cannot be crafted in the current version, and you will have to install the JEI mod to get the new items in creative mode. The tripod can be mounted on any surface for further installation of the camera. The latter looks like an old-school or semi-pro device but not like the IP camera we are familiar with. So when you launch the CCTV camera mod in your build, it feels like you are playing some photography simulator...
You will be able to control the camera by simply pressing the movement keys in the viewing mode. The entire process comes down to the following steps:
· Place a tripod in the place where you are going to install the camera;
· Place the camera on the tripod and assign an ID to it by clicking the RMB and selecting the appropriate item in the GUI;
· Place the laptop where you wish and click on the respective camera ID in the OS to start monitoring.
To exit the viewing mode, press the K button, and the OS window will disappear. If you wish, you will be able to take the equipment with you and go to other biomes. Moreover, you can have several laptops at once. For example, you can place one in a house, the other in the adjacent biome, and the third in another dimension. They automatically detect the IDs of the installed cameras, but for now, you can use only four of them, as the OS GUI allows only that. Other possible functions are, unfortunately, not yet implemented, although the designer promises to do so.
When you connect to a camera, you will see a slightly modified interface, including the REC icon that indicates that recording is currently underway, battery information, and narrowed screen frames. But if you press F1 in the viewing mode, everything redundant will disappear, and you will be left with the standard full-size Minecraft screen but without icons, GUI elements, and everything else. Those are all the features of the CCTV camera add-on, but it has a broad potential. You will be able to use it both to protect any structures and monitor biomes or the behavior of animals if, say, the latter are afraid to approach the player when they are in sight.
There are many ways to use the CCTV camera mod, and here, each player chooses which way to follow for themselves. By the way, Minecraft can boast many technology mods that add modern appliances, furniture, equipment for hackers, and much more. So if you would like to make your unique build in a modern style, be sure to add the CCTV camera add-on to it. Besides, we are looking forward to your comments, where you can specify how you decided to use the mod's functionality and what you consider the main benefits of the new device.
