Review Biome Sniffer

Minecraft Sniffer

A sniffer has been introduced to Minecraft 1.20, and this mob immediately attracted players’ attention, because it stands out with its nice appearance and unusual textures. If you ever see this creature in the game, you’ll feel like getting one for yourself. But it’s not easy to do: as history tell us, all sniffers are extinct, and you need to find an egg to spawn them. Also, in the future, you’ll be able to use torchlight seeds to breed these mobs, respectively, you can even sell them to other players. According to the developers’ idea, you need them to search for ancient seeds. If you don’t particularly like this function, install the Biome Sniffer mod, which will change the approach and give all sniffers appearing in the game the ability to search for specific biomes. This will significantly diversify your gameplay and add a new way to find locations.

The Biome Sniffer mod is aimed at adding new mechanics to sniffers: they’ll search for biomes depending on certain resources from this biome. That is, to find an island with mycelium, the player must have at least a few blocks from this location, and only then will you be able to find these lands in the game. The animal immediately begins to slowly crawl towards this biome to show you where it is. However, this procedure can take hours if the desired region is far from the player. In this article, we described and demonstrated how these mechanics work, and what are the main advantages of this mod in the vanilla version of the Minecraft game.

Sniffer – a standard Minecraft mod, and it must first be hatched or released from the egg to make it to search for certain biomes. At the moment, the Biome Sniffer mod supports searching for the following locations: desert, jungle, swamp, flower forest, dark oak forest, and wasteland. Each biome requires a specific block, which you need to throw to this mob for it to start searching. Here, it’s important to choose exactly the below-described materials:

· Swamp – a water-lilly;

· Wasteland – red sand;

· Flower forest – any types of Minecraft flowers;

· Dark oak forest – any types of mushrooms, but from the vanilla game version only;

· Jungles – a vine, which is difficult to find it in other biomes, so you’ll have to buy it from players or find it in some locations;

· Desert – sand. Perhaps, one of the simplest biomes that you can find with the help of sniffers, as sand can appear even near rivers and lakes.

As for now, only the main biomes from this list are supported, so you won’t be able to search for other territories from third-party mods: the mob simply won’t understand what you want from it. In the future, the developer may add support for various mods, especially global ones, or it will be possible to add names of locations, which you want to see, in the configuration file, but these are just ideas.

All you need to start the search procedure is to throw the corresponding block to this mob, after which it will slowly move towards this biome. This is exactly what the developer, who created this mod for a wide audience, says. But by no means are these all the innovations and functions of Biome Sniffer. Also, all sniffers change their texture by default depending on the biome they are in, for example, if they get into jungle, they turn green, and if they are somewhere in savannah, they turns yellowish. Indeed, this dynamic change of textures makes the game even more realistic, since the standard Minecraft tools don’t provide such mechanics for sniffers.

In the regular world you can breed sniffers using torchlight seeds; so, if you find this mob, try to find a pair for it to use them for reproduction in the future. After mating, they will lay eggs about every 5 minutes, which are you can use to spawn new mobs. Thanks to this system, you can create full-fledged farms that will bring you not only a lot of experience, but also eggs, which you can sell to other players on the Minecraft server if they don’t want to look for the animal or decide to get a couple of animals to start with. In general, Sniffer is an amazing and colorful mob, for which dozens of mods are created and supported, and Biome Sniffer is definitely among the top list.

The developer promises that sniffers will be able to identify other types of biomes by various materials in the future, so these mechanics will further evolve, and each player will be able to take several mobs and throw different types of blocks to them to start searching for locations. The mechanics are interesting, but the implementation is far from convenient: your character must closely follow this mob so as not to lose sight of it, otherwise he simply won’t be able to find the way to a particular biome in the Minecraft game. As a result, we can conclude that the new Biome Sniffer mod will be extremely useful for any game build, starting from version 1.20, , and if you have never interacted with sniffers before, then it’s high time to start making use of them.
