Better Nether: A Mod That Transforms the Nether

A mod called Better Nether significantly expands the Nether dimension and also adds a lot of interesting and useful things. It brings as many as seventeen new biomes there. The first of them is the gravel desert. It is a vast multi-layered biome filled with a huge amount of gravel, on which grow several new plant kinds, namely the agave, nether cactus, and barrel cactus. All of them inflict damage to mobs and the player when touched.

The magma land consists of huge vast caves with giant obsidian crystals and active geysers.

The nether grasslands are huge vast fields filled with the smokers and stalactites.

The nether grasslands biome has several sub-biomes. The first of them is the poor grasslands, which resemble the basic biome but has bare soil.

The next sub-biome is the bone reef, which does not look quite common for the Nether. Indeed, it is a bright space with a huge amount of green vegetation as well as white vertical bones.

In turn, the bone reef biome has its own variety, which also features the bone columns, but the grass there is darker.

The next sub-biome is the soul plane. It consists of the endless soulsand fields on which flowers grow.

The nether swampland is a biome in which there is a huge amount of crimson trees with hanging vines as well as numerous lava puddles. This biome has a sub-biome, which looks like a huge space with hanging vines.

There is also a sub-biome consisting of red mushrooms, soul sand, netherite, and nether wart.

The nether jungle is a biome filled with a huge amount of various bright vegetation.

The next biome is the mushroom forest. There are not only usual fungi there but also spiky mushroom trees. This biome has two sub-biomes. The first of them differs only in the landscape, while the second has even more vegetation but does not feature spiky trees.

This mod also adds a lava-flooded biome.

The old warped woods is a sub-biome consisting of many vines, and its cave looks like a grand canyon in which large trees grow.

The last biome to consider consists of a crimson forest and glowstone stalactites.

The mod adds several types of stalactites to the Nether, namely glowstone, netherite, blackstone, basalt, and bone. Having extracted four stalactites of one type, you can craft a respective block.

Another innovation of this mod is 3D models for the already existing mushrooms. Each kind has acquired at least three new models. Besides, you can now mine lapis lazuli in the Nether.

Roads will now generate in each of the new biomes. They will be illuminated by special poles with lanterns.

Besides, the mod adds a lot of new dungeon types. The first of them hangs on the ceiling of the Nether or floats in the air. You will find a chest with cheap loot inside.

The next dungeon type is the small lava pyramid with the pig statue inside. If you click the RMB on the latter while holding a glowstone in your hand, it will become your new spawn point. This statue can be broken and installed in any convenient place.

The next structure is the large lava pyramid with a treasury under the central platform. You will find four chests with various loot and a spawner of wither skeletons there.

One of the largest new structures is the lava fortress. You will find numerous rooms, chests, and mobs inside it. The fortress consists of two floors with chests hiding highly valuable loot.

The last and the largest new structure is the nether city. It can boast a grand scale and consist of various houses connected by small bridges and streets. There are also various parks with the pig statues there.

The mod adds several new mobs and a boss. The first mob is the most ordinary firefly, which drops experience and the glowstone dust.

The second mob is the hydrogen jellyfish. It is passive and of huge size. However, if you touch it, it will explode.

The next mob spawns in the nether jungle biome. This jungle skeleton does not differ from the usual one, except for the green cap and the probability of carrying a sword. Their characteristics are identical.

The next mob is called naga. It is a small flying bone snake, which is very rarely found. This creature is a dangerous and hostile mob that spits at you and imposes the Wither effect. If you kill it, you can obtain its head.

The flying pig spawns in the crimson biomes. This mob is very similar to a bat and can drop raw porkchop after death.

You can now find the nether reeds in this dimension, which spawn next to the lava. They can be used for creating sugar, paper, and so on. Besides, it is needed for crafting tools and weapons added by this mod.

The mod adds two new ore types, the cincinnasite and nether ruby. The latter can be used for crafting the standard set of blocks, slabs, steps, etc. The nether ruby armor and weapons have the same characteristics as the diamond ones.

During the mining of the cincinnasite ore, you will get cincinnasite, which can be smelted in a furnace to obtain ingots. They can be used for crafting such items as rails, buckets, armor, weapons, and so on. You can also make a forge of it, which will smelt ores two times faster than the ordinary furnace. With the help of this mineral, you can also craft the nether brewing stand, notable for its working speed.
