Sophisticated backpacks is yet another backpack mod this time with backpack you can place in world, color in different color combinations, upgrade with more inventory and enhance with many functional upgrades.
Backpack in its item form
Can be accessed using a key press (by default B)
Renders on player when put in their chest slot
Curios compatibility makes it possible to wear and render the backpack when put in “Back” slot
Backpack can also be placed in world
Shift right clicking the backpack on the ground puts it down
When in world player can use it the same way they would use a chest
Backpacks can also have items piped in/out using hoppers or any kind of modded pipes, external storage access, …
Shift right clicking the backpack on the ground with empty hand picks it back up or it can also be brokend and picked up as any other item
Backpacks can be upgraded
5 tiers - leather, iron, gold, diamond, netherite
Each of the tiers adds more storage slots and more upgrade slots
Loot / Mob Spawning
Occasionally backpacks and some upgrades can be found in loot chests
And even though rare, mobs can also spawn with backpacks on them sometimes with a bit of loot in those and sometimes they would even play a tune
Configuration
There is a lot of things you can change through mod's config
Number of inventory and upgrade slots of each backpack tier
Number of filter slots in many of the upgrades
Range, speed and some additional features of different upgrades
And if an backpack/upgrade doesn't fit a theme of your modpack you can disable them in the config to disable recipes and hide them from creative menu / jei

Backpacks can be combined with dyes to get them in many different color combinations.
Dyeing the backpack in crafting table
Color of multiple dyes in recipe gets combined similar to how it works for coloring leather armor except backpack can have two colors - main and accent
Dyes to the left of the backpack in the recipe apply to the main color
Dyes to the right apply to the accent color of the backpack
Dyes in the same column apply to both
And once dyed you can continue adding dyes which combine with the current main color, accent color or both
So yes there are many color combinations
Color of already dyed backpack can be washed away by clicking it on cauldron with water
Pickup Upgrade
Picks up items that match the filter directly into the backpack
Regular upgrade can only filter by item and has 9 filter slots
Advanced one has more filtering options - match by item/mod/tags, match nbt, match damage and 16 slots that can be used to filter
When the backpack exists in the world pickup upgrade will pickup any items that come in contact with the backpack (again ones that match filter)
Magnet Upgrade
Variant of pickup that teleports items around the player directly into the backpack
Regular upgrade can only filter by item and has 9 filter slots
Advanced one has bigger magnet range more filtering options - match by item/mod/tags, match nbt, match damage and 16 slots that can be used to filter
When the backpack exists in the world magnet upgrade will pickup any items around it within the same distance as it does when it's in an item form
Filter Upgrade
Can be used to limit what can be piped into / out of backpack
Its primary use is for a backpack that is placed in the world and connected to hoppers / pipes
But it can also be used on backpacks in backpack (inception upgrade required) to limit what can be inserted taken out of them by upgrades in the main backpack (like magnet inserting items into them)
Regular upgrade can only filter by item and has 9 filter slots
Advanced one has more filtering options - match by item/mod/tags, match nbt, match damage and 16 slots that can be used to filter
Void Upgrade
Does exactly what you would expect - voids items that are picked up based on its filter
Regular upgrade can only filter by item and has 9 filter slots
Advanced one has more filtering options - match by item/mod/tags, match nbt, match damage and 16 slots that can be used to filter
There's also an option to turn on off voiding of items that are inserted through backpack gui, like if you want to add a stack of some item and keep it there, but don't want any new ones to be inserted
Compacting Upgrade
Compacts items using 2x2 and 3x3 recipes, usually coal, redstone and similar
Regular upgrade only has 9 filter slots and can only compact items using 2x2 recipes
Advanced one has 16 slots and can compact items using both 2x2 and 3x3 recipes
There's also a switch for whether to have items compacted only when inserted by other upgrades/pipes or whether the compacting should also happen when inserting the items in backpack's gui
And another switch that allows to compact also items which cannot be uncompacted back (by default will only compact those that can be uncrafted)
Feeding upgrade
Feeds player with food from backpack when the player gets hungry
Has filters to allow limiting what food items should be fed to player (pretty useful in case you're picking up stuff like rotten flesh and similar with negative effects)
Also works when backpack is in the world - will feed players who are 3 blocks or close to the backpack
Deposit upgrade
Deposit upgrade makes it so that shift right clicking an inventory with the backpack in hand deposits items specified in upgrades filter into that inventory.
Regular upgrade can only filter by item and has 9 filter slots
Advanced one has more filtering options - match by item/mod/tags, match nbt, match damage and 16 slots that can be used to filter
In addition to these regular filters it can also filter by the contents of the target inventory
Restock Upgrade
Takes items defined in its filter from inventory shift right clicked with backpack in hand and puts them in backpack.
Regular upgrade can only filter by item and has 9 filter slots
Advanced one has more filtering options - match by item/mod/tags, match nbt, match damage and 16 slots that can be used to filter
In addition to these regular filters it can also filter by the contents of the backpack so only items already present in backpack get pulled from inventory
Refill upgrade
Keeps a stack of item filled in player's inventory
Up to 6 stacks can be defined in its filter to refill like that
Inception Upgrade
Allows putting backpacks in backpack
Only allows this on one level so no backpack in backpack in backpack
Upgrades in these backpacks will also work so you can have for example pickup upgrade in one of these picking up items directly into it
Upgrades in the main backpack can access inventory of the subbackpacks and there's an option that defines whether they use inventory in subbackpacks first or the main one first
Filter upgrade in subbackpacks can be used to limit what items get inserted / pulled from them
Backpacks in backpack can be open using open backpack keybind when cursor is over them
Everlasting Upgrade
Makes backpack indestructible
Immune to Explosions (both as an item and block)
Immune to any kind of prickly thing like cactus
Immune to Lava / Fire damage
Doesn't despawn when it exists as an item in the world
When it falls in lava will float up above it and stay there
Same happens when it falls in void except it stays just above the lowest build limit
Smelting Upgrades
Portable furnace in backpack which can also work automatically
Regular upgrade works just as furnace would
Auto smelting one will automatically pull fuel, items to smelt and will automatically push smelted items back into backpack
It also has filters for fuel and what items to smelt
Crafting Upgrade
Crafting table in upgrade tab
Integration with crafting tweaks and mouse tweaks
Also has performance enhancements that make it faster in crafting than vanilla workbench
Stonecutter Upgrade
Portable version of stonecutter in upgrade tab
Also remembers the last recipe used
If the same block is inserted it will preselect that recipe
So stonecutting multiple stacks of the same block is much faster
Stack Upgrade
Makes it possible to fit more in the inventory slots
Multiple stack upgrades can be put in upgrade slots and their multipliers get multiplied :)
e.g. 2 tier 2 upgrades = 16x max stack size value
Shift clicking from the oversized stack out will only move a max of one regula stack
To move as much as possible you can use Ctrl Shift Click
Jukebox Upgrade
Allows to play music discs in upgrade tab
Works both in block form as well as when backpack is worn on player
When on player it plays at players positions and sound moves with player
Toolswapper Upgrade
Automatically swaps tools into player's hand
Regular upgrade will automatically swap right tool into player's hand from backpack when block or entity is clicked
Advanced one has filters which allow to filter what gets swapped
In addition to that advanced one enables a key (which needs to be configured in controls) which when pressed will swap in tool into player's hand based on block/entity they are looking at
This is meant primarily for tools that are right clicked like wrenches from many different mods
