More Critters is a mod that focuses not on global mechanics or technological chains, but on atmosphere, details, and the feeling of a “living world.” It adds many new creatures organically integrated into the game’s ecosystem, and in doing so makes world exploration richer and more meaningful. This mod is aimed at players who enjoy adventure, observing the environment, and gradually discovering content, rather than only fast progression and optimization.

The world of Minecraft was originally conceived as a sandbox with a minimalist set of creatures, where the player fills the game with meaning through building, exploration, and survival. However, over time, for many players the standard fauna begins to seem monotonous: familiar cows, pigs, and zombies no longer create a sense of novelty, and traveling through biomes stops being surprising. It is precisely at such moments that modifications that expand and deepen the gameplay experience come onto the scene.

The main idea of More Critters is to expand Minecraft’s fauna with unique creatures, each of which has its own behavior, visual style, and practical purpose. This is not a random collection of mobs, but a well-thought-out system in which new creatures appear in specific biomes, interact with the surrounding world, and in their own way affect gameplay. The mod tries to preserve the balance of vanilla Minecraft: the new creatures do not make the game too easy or, on the contrary, excessively difficult. Instead, they add additional development options, new sources of resources, and reasons to explore the world. The player is not forced to use the mod’s content, but if they want, they can dive deeply into its mechanics.

The central part of More Critters is, of course, the new creatures. They differ not only in appearance, but also in purpose. Among them are both passive animals and rarer or more unusual forms of life that can be useful in survival. Some creatures become a source of food, others provide materials for crafting or trading. It is important to note that the critters fit into biomes logically: the player can expect to encounter certain creatures in forests, swamps, mountains, or other natural zones. This strengthens the feeling of naturalness and encourages travel. World exploration stops being a formality and turns into a search for new life forms and their characteristics.

The Beetle-Rabbit is a passive creature that lives in desert biomes. It has 7 health points and is classified as a farm animal valued primarily for its meat. Despite its unusual appearance, the Beetle-Rabbit poses no danger to the player and can be used as a stable source of food in the early and mid stages of survival. Beetle-Rabbits can be bred. For this, dead bushes are used, which logically ties the creature to the desert ecosystem. When breeding, Beetle-Rabbits can produce several offspring at once, which makes them convenient for mass farming. Their eggs can be bought from villagers or found at abandoned Beetle-Rabbit farms encountered in the world.

Over time, the Beetle-Rabbit periodically sheds its shell. This shell is edible and can be used as an additional food resource. A separate feature of the Beetle-Rabbit is the ability to decorate it with sweets. The decoration happens in a strictly defined order: first, icing is applied to the creature (using sugar or cocoa beans), then sprinkles are added, made from sugar, honey, and any dye, and finally any berry is placed on top. After shedding its shell, a decorated Beetle-Rabbit will leave behind a shell containing all the ingredients used. This makes the mechanic not only visually unusual, but also functional, allowing the player to obtain combined food items. Overall, the Beetle-Rabbit is an example of a creature that combines atmospheric design, farming usefulness, and original gameplay mechanics.

The Blizzard Spider is a hostile arthropod creature that lives in snowy tundras and cold regions of the world. It has 15 health points and is distinguished by a thin, elongated build, which gives it an especially creepy and fragile look. Despite its “thinness,” the Blizzard Spider is a serious threat, especially to unprepared players. You can encounter a Blizzard Spider both wandering across snowy landscapes and inside its nests. These nests are made of cold stone and freezing cobwebs, which makes them easy to recognize and simultaneously dangerous. The spider’s behavior resembles that of vanilla spiders: during the day it is mostly neutral and attacks the player only if provoked, but at night it becomes aggressive and begins actively hunting.

When attacking, the Blizzard Spider inflicts a frostbite effect on the player, which makes combat harder and increases the danger of fighting in cold biomes. This effect makes encounters with it especially unpleasant in conditions of limited visibility or during snowstorms. After death, the Blizzard Spider can drop freezing thread. This resource is used to craft cold stone, and can also be combined with a freezing sack — a rare drop from other creatures in the mod — to craft a web sack. The web sack is a throwable item: when it hits a creature, it covers the target with a dense layer of web, completely immobilizing it. The only way to free oneself from such webbing is with shears, which makes the item especially useful in combat and when capturing mobs.

The Screeching Bat is a hostile underground creature with 6 health points, representing a large and extremely creepy type of bat. It is easy to recognize by its many glowing eyes and unnatural appearance, which immediately creates a sense of danger. These creatures live deep underground, below the deepslate layer, where there is almost no natural light. Most often, Screeching Bats can be seen hanging from cave ceilings. In this state, they remain motionless until the player approaches within a dangerous distance. As soon as this happens, the bat abruptly drops down and begins to flap its wings furiously, creating powerful echo waves. Unlike most hostile mobs, the Screeching Bat does not attack directly and does not deal damage by itself.

The main threat of the Screeching Bat lies in its ability to emit echolocation waves that attract all nearby hostile creatures to the player’s location. Thus, even a single bat can quickly turn a calm cave into a deadly dangerous zone filled with monsters. This makes it an especially unpleasant opponent when exploring the dark depths. After death, the Screeching Bat can drop its wings. From them, you can cook a special soup that temporarily hides the player from the attention of ordinary bats. In addition, the wings are used to craft a screech bomb — a throwable item that creates a powerful echo wave. When used, such a bomb pulls all nearby creatures toward the point of explosion, opening tactical possibilities both for distracting enemies and for deliberately gathering them.

The Creeperflower is an unusual hostile creature of plant origin with 5 health points. The Creeperflower itself rarely appears directly: its existence is closely tied to infecting other monsters. Any hostile mob spawning in the badlands biome has a chance to be infected by Creeperflowers, which noticeably changes its behavior and the consequences of its death. When an infected monster dies, Creeperflowers burst out of its body — small creatures that resemble miniature creepers made of plant matter. These creatures immediately try to attack the nearest players.

After several successful hits, the Creeperflower explodes, but its explosion does not destroy the surrounding landscape, which distinguishes it from ordinary creepers and makes the threat more tactical than destructive. If the Creeperflower dies before exploding, there is a chance to obtain flowering bush seeds. These seeds allow the player to create a flowering bush — a special plant with defensive properties. A planted bush remains passive during the day, but at night it opens, releasing friendly Creeperflowers that independently attack any hostile mobs nearby.

The Bounce-Lizard is a passive reptile with 10 health points that lives in jungles. This flat, squat creature immediately attracts attention with its unusual shape and “springy” body. The main feature of the Bounce-Lizard is its ability to reflect any items thrown at it: everything that lands on its surface bounces back, as if from a trampoline block. Bounce-Lizards can be bred using spider eyes, which makes them farmable if the player has the necessary resources. In the wild, they are closely associated with bounce berries, which can be found growing on bushes throughout the jungle biome. These berries play a key role in interacting with the creature.

If you feed the Bounce-Lizard bounce berries, it falls asleep. In its sleeping state, the creature completely stops moving, but its reflective abilities become stronger. This allows the sleeping Bounce-Lizard to be used as a natural springy platform or as a defensive element that reflects projectiles and items with greater force. You can wake the Bounce-Lizard up using milk. After waking, it returns to its usual passive behavior and standard level of reflection. Thanks to these mechanics, the Bounce-Lizard can be used not only as a decorative creature, but also as a functional element in traps, parkour constructions, or unusual farms.

A rare and mysterious freshwater creature with an impressive 30 health points. It is a large, flat fish whose existence is known mostly thanks to notes and samples left after the first and only documented encounter. Since its discovery, the Electro-Eel has never been seen again, making it one of the mod’s most mysterious creatures. According to descriptions, the Electro-Eel can generate small shock waves of electricity, which it uses to stun prey. These discharges not only help it hunt, but also point to the unusual nature of the creature, going beyond ordinary Minecraft fauna. The researcher who discovered the Electro-Eel managed to extract and preserve some of its electrical energy after the creature was wounded.

It was this energy that formed the basis for creating technological items such as a stun gun and an electric flowering bush. These developments became possible thanks to the unique properties of the Electro-Eel, which emphasizes its important role in the mod’s ecosystem despite its extreme rarity. A hypothesis is also put forward that the Electro-Eel can receive energy directly from thunderstorms. The researcher encountered this creature on a particularly stormy day, which suggests a connection between the fish’s activity and natural electrical phenomena. If this is true, the Electro-Eel may be not just an animal, but a kind of living accumulator of natural energy.

The Mouse-Ball is an unusual creature with 25 health points that lives in the badlands biome. At first glance it looks like a strange rodent, but its main feature appears in moments of danger: when threatened, the Mouse-Ball can inflate like a balloon. This behavior makes it both a funny and dangerous opponent, especially in tight spaces. When the Mouse-Ball is killed, toxin bubbles drop from it. Each such bubble can contain one of five new types of poisons. These bubbles are used in brewing and allow the player to create the corresponding poisons, which makes the Mouse-Ball a valuable resource for players who actively use alchemy. Initially, these creatures were considered merely a rare curiosity, but over time it became clear that their potential is much greater.

Mouse-Balls can be tamed using spider eyes. A tamed Mouse-Ball becomes a full-fledged companion and can fulfill different roles. Interacting with it while sneaking allows the player to switch between two states: medic and soldier. In the medic role, the Mouse-Ball heals its owner and nearby tamed creatures. In soldier mode, it actively attacks enemies, sometimes inflating and poisoning opponents. Special attention should be given to Mouse-Balls’ love for cupcakes. Feeding cupcakes restores their health and makes them more resilient in combat. In addition, cupcakes can be combined with toxin bubbles in a brewing stand to create poisoned cupcakes. Such cupcakes can be fed to soldier Mouse-Balls, after which they begin using the corresponding poison in battles.

The Warptrap is a thick-skinned predator with 30 health points that lives in warped forests of the Nether. It is an ambush creature with a hard shell, perfectly adapted to life among warped vegetation. Warptraps lead a secretive lifestyle and hunt using the surrounding environment, which makes encounters with them unexpected and tense. The main hunting method of the Warptrap is burying itself under warped nylium. It waits for prey beneath the surface and strikes sharply as soon as the target approaches. Especially often, Warptraps hunt endermen, taking advantage of their carelessness and vulnerability to sudden attacks. Toward players, the Warptrap remains neutral and does not attack without reason, which allows cautious observation of it in its natural habitat.

After death, the Warptrap can drop sturdy shells. This resource is used to craft a durable chestplate. This armor has a unique property — it has a chance to completely negate incoming damage, which makes it especially valuable for players who prefer risky fights and survival in dangerous conditions. In addition to armor, Warptrap shells can be used to craft a biting shield. This shield not only protects its owner, but can also deal damage to attacking enemies, as if responding blow for blow. This mechanic turns defense into an active element of combat and encourages an aggressive-defensive playstyle.

The Glimmerwing is a fragile but surprisingly beautiful creature with 7 health points that lives in the End dimension. Its existence is closely tied to chorus plants: on the tall stems of chorus fruit, you can notice shimmering cocoons hanging downward. Over time, glow-worms hatch from these cocoons — small, vulnerable, and extremely delicate creatures. Glow-worms are the larval form of Glimmerwings. After completing their development, they turn into winged creatures that freely float in the void of the End. Glimmerwings slowly fly between islands, leaving behind a shimmering trail of particles, which makes them visible even from a great distance and gives the surroundings a fairy-tale, almost mystical feeling.

Glimmerwings can be fed chorus fruit. When interacting with a player, they can grant the Blessing of the End effect — a special state connected to the energy of this dimension. Because of this, Glimmerwings become not just decorative creatures, but useful companions when exploring dangerous End biomes. In addition, with careful interaction with cocoons or the creatures themselves, End dust can be obtained. It is used in brewing to create Blessing of the End potions, expanding the player’s alchemical options and adding new ways to prepare for survival in the End.

Mushroom islands hold many secrets, and the darkest among them is considered the Ancient Skeleton — a rare structure marked by columns made of mushroom stems. Its true purpose is unknown: some believe it is the remains of an ancient ritual, others say it is the grave of a beloved creature of a long-vanished civilization. Either way, it is here that a chain of events begins that leads to the appearance of one of the most dangerous and unusual creatures in the mod. Around the Ancient Skeleton grow two rare mushrooms: the Vita Mushroom, which has healing properties, and the Mori Mushroom, known for its deadly nature.

If you combine them into the Purgatory Mixture and pour it onto the skeleton, it is resurrected as the Nightshroom — a revived body stuck between life and death. This creature has a colossal health pool — 200 health points — and immediately becomes hostile to all adventurers. Nightshroom attacks with claws and beak, can jump high, and slam down on its target with force. Sometimes it summons mushroom zombies, increasing the pressure in combat.

If its attacking jump misses, the Nightshroom is briefly stunned, creating a rare window for a counterattack. Defeating it is difficult, but the reward matches the risk. After death, the Nightshroom drops ancient bones and mushroom flesh. These resources can be used for repeating the resurrection ritual or for crafting the Mushroom Staff — a weapon imbued with the opposing forces of life and death. Both mushrooms also have culinary uses.

Mori Mushrooms are used to craft Death Stew, which, when fed to a stunned Nightshroom, transforms it into the Frightshroom — a slower but even more powerful rotting beast that spews decaying flesh. The Frightshroom drops regenerating flesh, which can be combined with Vita Mushrooms to cook Life Stew — one of the strongest healing items in the game. If instead you feed Life Stew to a stunned Nightshroom, it transforms into the Mightshroom — a rare and loyal pet that becomes stronger at night and serves the player rather than hunting them.

The Bomb Jellyfish is an extremely dangerous but fragile creature with 10 health points that lives in the deep layers of the ocean. Despite its apparent slowness and outward harmlessness, these jellyfish fully live up to their alarming name. Their bodies are saturated with unstable energy, making any careless collision deadly risky. On direct contact with a living creature, the Bomb Jellyfish detonates instantly.

The explosion happens unexpectedly and with almost no warning, which makes encounters with them especially dangerous in tight underwater spaces or in poor visibility. Although the jellyfish does not seek to attack, its explosive nature turns it into a living mine. After detonation, the Bomb Jellyfish can drop explosive jelly. This material is extremely valuable: when applied to another creature, it inflicts a burning effect. After a few seconds, the carrier of this effect explodes, repeating the jellyfish’s destructive feature. Thus, the jelly allows the player to literally pass an explosion from one creature to another.

The Evader is a small biomechanical fish with 10 health points that lives in warm and moderately warm ocean waters. These creatures often jump out of the water, which makes them noticeable from afar and emphasizes their unusual, almost artificial nature. Evaders look fragile, but are well adapted to fast movement and escape from danger. The main distinctive feature of the Evader is its tail shaped like a propeller. Thanks to it, the fish can make sharp accelerations and instantly change direction of movement, which allows it to effectively evade predators. However, this feature also has a drawback: the tail often gets stuck in seaweed, especially in kelp forests. In such moments, the Evader noticeably slows down and becomes vulnerable.

Evader tails are used to craft an accelerating pump — a device that increases the player’s movement speed. In addition, the tail can be combined with explosive jelly to obtain jelly torpedoes. These projectiles explode on impact and have long been used by sea raiders, including the notorious Flamebeard. Torpedoes make underwater battles more dynamic and dangerous, especially when used in confined spaces. Evaders can be bred using kelp, allowing stable production of valuable tails. Altogether, these creatures add to oceans the feeling of a technological ecosystem where living organisms and mechanical elements intertwine, and each life form finds its practical use.

The Iropod is a massive arthropod with 35 health points that lives in the coldest and darkest depths of the ocean. This creature is adapted to extreme conditions where there is almost no light and constant water pressure reigns. Its heavy body and dense carapace give the Iropod a menacing and almost invulnerable look. When threatened, the Iropod instantly closes its shell, using its claws as protective shutters. In this state, it is practically invulnerable and waits out the danger, which makes it a difficult target for thoughtless attacks. Most Iropods have a pale gray color, but rumors speak of rare individuals with a metallic black shade found in the deepest trenches.

Over time, Iropods molt, shedding their old shells. These shells do not disappear without a trace and can be collected by the player. From them, an Iropod Helmet is crafted — a special armor piece that grants a resistance effect when using stealth movement. However, such protection also has a drawback: wearing the helmet partially worsens visibility, which requires careful and deliberate use.
