Review Musical Instrument Minecraft Interface (MIMI)

Play Musical Instruments

What opportunities does the vanilla world of Minecraft offer? You can mine different types of resources, enchant items, build farms, grow plants, and fight mobs. However, at the same time, there are activities for the player just to enjoy himself without doing anything particularly useful. For example, listening to music on a record player. Since there are several records in the vanilla version of the game, you can listen to them using a separate item. You probably know about it. But what would you say if you get by times more musical items in the game?

The Musical Instrument MIMI add-on adds a long list of musical instruments to Minecraft for playing real music! That is, there are notes, you can connect special utilities to transfer keystrokes from a PC to the game, and this opens up a huge number of new ways to play tracks. But now it will be you who will perform them, playing your favorite melodies and compositions. Do you have a piano? Or maybe a guitar? A bass guitar? The Musical Instrument MIMI mod has added several dozen items, allowing you to play any musical composition, which is a huge advantage of this add-on…

Minecraft will get over 30 musical instruments, ranging from guitars to cellos, bagpipes and bells. The choice is really huge and the developer of Musical Instrument MIMI tried to elaborate the appearance of each item. Everything is fine here from a visual point of view, although some of the added items may seem strange and unfamiliar. However, the guitar, for example, is a completely recognizable musical instrument used both in real and in virtual life. We’ve added a few screenshots for you, where we’ve roughly shown what is added to the game after installing this mod.

However, the most interesting is its functional. The Musical Instrument MIMI add-on is designed for playing real music in Minecraft. For example, you can install a cello, connect the corresponding program to your computer, and then play some melodies from the notes. All the players sitting next to you will hear this song. Thus, in fact, you create the musical environment in the game, using specialized programs. So, if a player can play some musical instrument, then it won’t be difficult for them to do the same in the game using the Musical Instrument MIMI.

Imagine what masterpieces you can create in the cubic world by playing different melodies, be it a guitar, piano, keyboard, and many other familiar items. The choice is really huge, and this is a great advantage of the mod: the player not only sees high-quality and detailed musical instruments, but can also start playing them at any time. This crosses the line between the usual cubic world and the mod standard, so the developer of Musical Instrument MIMI has done a great job on such an instrument. Most likely, it will only be demanded from a limited number of users, as not everyone will be able to play an instrument. But at the moment this add-on has been downloaded by more than 1 million users.

According to the developer, instruments can be played with the controls in the game, using external MIDI files or separate devices (for example, you connect a guitar and actually play it or the piano). Moreover, the player can assign certain MIDI channels for each device, which goes far beyond the limits of the Minecraft game. To play synchronously, you can connect several musical instruments at once, but each of them will require some fine-tuning. In this article, we won’t talk about all the features of using instruments and their configurations: here, each player uses Musical Instrument MIMI according to their needs, depending on the available musical devices and programs.

However, players will be able to convert notes from a PC at any time, transcoding them into output signals for Redstone. Indeed, this system makes it possible to quickly transfer sound from real sound instruments into the game and into the Minecraft universe. As you can imagine, this mechanic involves not only musicians, but fans of various logic systems as well. If you are at least somewhat familiar with such components and can play one of the musical instruments in real life, we recommend trying it. There are plenty of different guides on YouTube for the Musical Instrument MIMI mod, where players show how they play, for example, the piano or guitar. At the moment, the guitar is the most common item, although you can connect about three dozen other devices.
