Fancy Dyes: Dyeing Armor in Minecraft

The standard functionality of many Minecraft versions did not allow dyeing armor. It is only 1.20 that has allowed players to change the appearance of sets with the help of the templates, but its options are still somewhat meager compared to those of different mods. So if you are looking for a cool mod with which you could significantly transform armor in Minecraft, be sure to install Fancy Dyes. With its help, you will be able to customize the in-game armor sets using a wide range of dyes. Moreover, the colors can be both plain and shimmering.

The Fancy Dies mod adds more than 50 different dyes to the game, differing not only in colors but also in effects. You will not have to install shaders, texture packs, or skins for the character to somehow diversify its appearance — it will be enough to repaint your armor in any of the available colors and get the desired result.

Review of the Fancy Dyes Mod

The mod adds 50–60 new dyes that can be crafted using standard ingredients from the vanilla Minecraft and glass bottles. After you combine them, you will get a dye in the bottle, which is necessary to change the appearance of the armor. Such a simple and intuitive recipe can be applied even at the initial stages of the game. The system allows you to change the appearance of both iron and netherite armor. Moreover, almost any vanilla material is supported.

Note! If you use the mod for Minecraft 1.20.1, you will be able to take advantage of many more different mixtures (more than 100 variants), as the designer of Fancy Dyes has released a major update, fixed numerous bugs, and slightly changed the appearance of the bottles. In the screenshots below, you can see how the new list of dyes differs compared to previous versions.

To change the textures of a set, use the smithing table. You will need to place an armor piece there, say, leggings, along with a bottle of the desired color. It must be said that the Fancy Dyes mod adds not only the usual and shimmering colors but also multi-layer ones. They look very cool, and you certainly have not seen such mechanics in Minecraft before. However, you will have to redye each piece separately, so if you have a large number of different sets, this will take some time, as the process is fully manual.

If you decide to return the standard look of your armor, just place an empty bottle in the smithing table along with the desired piece, and you will get the vanilla set back. When using the GUI, you will see the result in advance and be able to evaluate the result before using the ingredients. You will be able to create a beautiful armor set of any color, and you should not doubt the potential of the Fancy Dyes mod.

When viewing items in your inventory, you can press Shift to see how the armor will transform if you use this or that dye. The modder has implemented a small animation effect showing how the appearance of an armor changes after using any of the available bottles. The latter can only be held in your hand and cannot be placed. However, if you wish, you will be able to insert them into frames, which looks very cool in large storage premises and decorated rooms.

As you can see, the mod is indeed useful and universal. Thanks to it, you will be able to quickly change the color of any armor type in Minecraft using only modified dyes in bottles. They are already numerous, but the designer adds even more options in each new version. The add-on is already available for Minecraft 1.20.1, and you can use it with both Forge and Fabric.
