Review Colossal Chests

Large Chests in Minecraft

How do you usually store your resources in the game? Barrels, chests, and different End containers — all of that is part of vanilla survival, but with mods, the possibilities for players are almost limitless. Everyone tries to install some unique option to expand storage systems, increase slot counts, and there are really many choices. However, in this article, we’ll offer you a slightly unconventional approach to storage organization! You’ll be able to create huge chests that are not only capacious but also physically large in size. And here comes the challenge — where can you even place something this big?

The Colossal Chests modification adds enormous chests to the game, which can be crafted using special blocks. These blocks form the basis of the entire structure, and to create a complete container, the player must build a correctly shaped cube. Capacity depends directly on the size of the structure you create in the game. If you plan to use this mod to upgrade your storage systems, you should prepare a large space in advance — each chest takes up much more room compared to regular containers in Minecraft. They look beautiful and unique, and you can make them not only out of wood but also out of iron, diamond, and other materials.

Players can craft chests of any size, but the limits are set in the configuration file. For example, if you’re not satisfied with the default limits, you can change the parameters to increase the scale. The new system might seem confusing at first, so to make things easier, we’ll explain the most important details of this mod.

How to Make a Large Chest?

Two types of blocks are used to build these chests: Colossal Chest Wall and Colossal Chest Core. To create a new container, you must place wall blocks around the perimeter, maintaining a proper cubic shape. For example, if a player builds a 2×2 chest, three blocks will be Colossal Chest Wall and one will be the Colossal Chest Core. That core is where all the resources are stored, and the number of wall blocks determines the total capacity. A convenient mechanic, right?

With this system, you can create chests of almost any size. The bigger the chest — the more storage potential it has. If the container is destroyed and the “core” block breaks, all the contents will drop on the ground, as if your main chest exploded. That’s where other types of containers can help, which can also be crafted from different materials using Colossal Chests features and mechanics.

Chests can be made of iron, gold, diamond, or obsidian. The last material gives another important advantage: it’s completely explosion-proof. Other players won’t be able to blow up your chests and steal the loot — very useful for servers where griefing is possible. Each material offers its own level of protection, helping you secure your most valuable resources. However, upgrading to an obsidian chest isn’t cheap: first, you must craft a diamond chest and then upgrade it to obsidian. Expensive, but it provides maximum protection in the game! These new container types are available only if you also have Iron Chests installed, so it’s recommended to add that mod for full functionality.

This system lets you create different types of containers of various shapes. The most important thing is to keep the proportions and include at least one core block — it serves as the main storage for your resources. There’s also a connection block that lets you transport resources through pipes — perfect for industrial modpacks. For example, if you want to move resources through pipes, sort items, or automate processes, you can connect hoppers, components, logic chains, and other mechanisms available in Minecraft.

The chests look very colorful and unusual — you’ve probably never seen anything of this scale in the game. This is one of the most unique mods for adding new types of containers to Minecraft. Remember, you can edit the configuration file to change the maximum number of blocks allowed for building chests — either limiting some options or expanding them, especially for large Minecraft servers with hundreds or thousands of players. It’s a great opportunity to look at storage systems from a new perspective, and if you’ve never used the Colossal Chests mod before, now’s the time to try it. In the comments, you can share which chests you liked most from this add-on and what maximum size you managed to craft in your world.
