The world of Minecraft is filled with many animals that players can interact with, tame, and feed, but players are always looking for more. Considering the vast number of mods available for this game, it can be overwhelming to choose. However, high-quality and well-developed additions are much rarer, which is why we provide detailed reviews of various modifications to highlight their advantages. In this review, we’ll talk about a new animal—the capybara—that you can add to the vanilla game world and interact with.
The Capybara mod adds a unique animal to the game, a mix between a pig and a beaver. This is the capybara, and there are several mods available for it, allowing each player to choose their preferred version. You will be able to interact with many creatures in the game and breed additional animals if you enjoy farming, finding new mobs, taming them, building pens, massive farms, and more. A large portion of players engage in farming in Minecraft in addition to building, as it is a relaxing and easy activity that offers a break from endless battles with mobs and bosses.
The capybara is a new animal in the blocky world, resembling a guinea pig or beaver with similar coloring but a larger size. In real life, it is considered a semi-aquatic herbivorous rodent with a somewhat square-shaped snout. It is also the largest rodent on the planet, attracting attention both in real life and in Minecraft. Many players create capybara skins, select matching capes, and some even install mods like Capybara to introduce this animal into the game world!
The new mob can live both on land and in water, as it swims well and quickly crosses aquatic biomes. However, they are most commonly found on land near meadows and forests, where they graze on grass. They can be tamed using sugarcane: simply feed one sugarcane to the animal, and it will start following you everywhere. The player will receive a corresponding chat notification with a new achievement—an extra incentive for players who enjoy collecting achievements in Minecraft. They also look adorable, especially when baby capybaras appear—they perfectly match the colors of their parents.
Capybaras can be bred using apples: simply feed a couple of animals to initiate breeding. Sometimes they run into the water to do this—it’s unclear whether this was intended by the developer or just a random occurrence. Even if the animal is near you, it might suddenly sprint toward the water. They move very quickly, and if a player accidentally or intentionally hits a capybara, catching it again for another hit will be difficult. Unfortunately, they do not drop any loot, and as of now, the developer has not added any, despite the Capybara mod's popularity among players. We reviewed the Forge version of the mod since another mod with the same name exists for Fabric.
Capybaras can mostly be found in jungles, but they may also spawn near water biomes. This mod is considered somewhat rare in Minecraft, so if you don’t want to search for the animal, you can simply use a spawn egg to summon it. To spawn baby capybaras, click the egg on an adult (this mechanic applies to all animals in Minecraft). As of now, the Capybara mod has over 600,000 downloads, but it is only available for Forge, meaning Fabric users won’t be able to add it to their collection.
By adding this mod to a server, players may be encouraged to explore jungles more often to find and tame these animals. Capybaras can serve as pets, following the player or simply bringing joy while kept in pens. You can also breed capybaras for trading, although moving them can be quite difficult due to their incredible speed—they can cross dozens of blocks in seconds in any biome. Check out the screenshots to see both adult and baby capybaras and decide if this mod is right for you!
In conclusion, this is a great addition to expand the list of animals that can be tamed and bred. While capybaras don’t drop any loot, they look unique and somewhat amusing. If you frequently interact with mobs and manage farms, the Capybara mod is a great fit for you. It doesn’t add dozens of animals or hundreds of new resources—it's a simple yet fun mod for the vanilla world, bringing a bit of variety to your Minecraft experience and offering new emotions!
