Review Better Compressed Blocks

Compressed Versions of Blocks in Minecraft

Minecraft has many different blocks that players have to interact with. These can be various types of stone, sand, dirt, and many others. Every time a player goes into a mine or clears an area, a lot of resources accumulate, and they are quite difficult to fit into chests. They take up a lot of space, and you constantly have to look into every container to find materials, which is not very convenient. But what if the game had the ability to compress certain blocks? Then each of you could fit an enormous number of resources of the same type into a single chest. Sounds interesting already, doesn’t it?

The Better Compressed Blocks modification adds “compressed versions of blocks” to Minecraft, offering you new ways to store resources. Now each chest can hold far more blocks, and with this system you can create unique types of storage that take up much less space. You can now carry significantly more items in a single slot and later place them into a container or use them for decoration. Such a small mod opens many new opportunities for players, and if you’re interested, we recommend reading our overview carefully!

In the vanilla version of the game, a huge number of blocks accumulate, and this is a real problem for players. While diamonds or even bricks can be stored endlessly since they are useful in the future, cobblestone, dirt, sand, and other materials are “trash” for the player. And when there’s a lot of them, you have to allocate a corresponding number of chests for storage. Now any of you can create compressed versions of blocks, literally compressing all materials as if it were an infinite container. The process is simple and intuitive even in English.

To make the first compressed version of a block, you need to place 9 blocks of the same type into a crafting table. You will receive the same material but with a 2x label. This means the block is compressed by two times. Then you can gather all compressed materials together to make a 3x block. And mathematically, it is clear that each time more and more items will fit, and this process is infinite: the player decides how many identical resources they want to compress into one block. Do you have a million of them? No problem! We’ll make one stack that contains them all. But this procedure still takes time even with the quick crafting system on the crafting table.

The textures of all compressed blocks will differ from each other. The more compressed the material is, the wider its edges become. This is visible both in the preview when the block is in the inventory and on the ground. In the screenshots you can see how many resources you can get from several blocks that were compressed 3–4 times using the Better Compressed Blocks mod. It’s actually a huge saving of inventory space and chest space, and if you use this system in Minecraft, you can create unique and convenient storage systems for any needs — both in vanilla Minecraft and together with third-party mods and modpacks.

You can compress almost all blocks that exist in Minecraft, starting from simple ones (sand, gravel, cobblestone) to valuable materials like gold, iron, emeralds, and diamonds. The whole process takes place on the crafting table: to compress, you place them inside, and to decompress and extract all resources, you also place the blocks inside. The system is extremely simple and convenient for the player, and if you constantly interact with large amounts of materials, this mod will definitely help you.

All blocks added by Better Compressed Blocks can be used not only for storage but also as decoration. However, changes are noticeable only with high compression levels, such as x5–x7. But crafting one decorative block requires a huge number of materials, so it is not recommended to spend too many resources on decoration. The mechanic works with many materials, and if you have JEI installed, you can check the full list. Blocks for every compression level are available here. For example, in Creative Mode, you can quickly grab blocks with x4 or x9 compression. A convenient system for players who want to test its capabilities.

Overall, we can conclude that this mod will be popular not only in vanilla modpacks but also in industrial ones, because players often have to interact with large amounts of different blocks, and cobblestone, sand, stone, and dirt are the foundation of any game world. Compress your resources, create unique storage solutions, and optimize your storage system as much as possible. You now have a real opportunity to reduce the number of resources in your chests hundreds of times without actually losing them. The only downside of this addition is that you will have to perform all operations manually using the crafting table.
