Another Bare Bones PBR – Beautiful graphics for the game

How do you feel about items and blocks in Minecraft having 3D graphics? We'll explain what we mean. For example, blocks of diamond or iron ore look too simple in the vanilla version of the game. However, there are certain textures that make such blocks look more «voluminous» by making some of their parts more protruding and creating additional effects. They make the graphics in the game look more beautiful, colorful, and lively. And although we have already shared a huge number of different texture packs for Minecraft, there are still many interesting options.

This article will focus on the Another Bare Bones PBR texture pack. According to its author, it contains many elements of the Bare Bones pack and adds more «volume» to objects. So if your version of Minecraft has any problems with the original texture pack, try installing Bare Bones additionally to ensure that the pack works correctly in any version.

Introduction to PBR in Minecraft

What exactly is PBR? PBR is a technology that allows you to add volume to textures. Not all texture packs have such effects. They work together with shaders, so if you want the items in this pack to be 3D as well, activate the corresponding item in your shader settings. For example, you can use the BSLShaders shaderpack, which we previously posted a detailed review of.

Setting up a shader to get 3D textures

Note ! All screenshots presented in this article were made using the BSL shader with the PBR option enabled in the settings.

To set up a shader follow these steps:

· Go to the Material section and enable the Advanced Materials option;

· In the Material Format section, select SEUS or LABPBR;

· Go to the Normals & Parallax section;

· set the desired «depth» for Parallax Depth. The higher the value, the better you will be able to see the volume of each block in the game.

We remind you once again that all these settings were made on BSL Shaders, as this shader is great for working with PBR texture packs and has all the necessary parameters. You can easily install any other packs and use 3D texture options in the same way.

Another Bare Bones PBR Overview

Let's take a closer look at the texture pack that greatly improves the graphics in Minecraft. If you've never used packs with shaders and PBR support before, then you missed a lot.

New ore textures

The first thing that will catch your eye in the game is that all types of ores look different there. The Another Bare Bones PBR texture pack greatly improves the appearance of ore that previously looked blurry and had no borders or ledges. The pack makes the edges look sharper and some details on the blocks appear more prominent. Moreover, if you additionally use shaders, the ore will reflect light and create glare.

This applies to almost all ores in the game, regardless of whether they are diamond, gold, or emerald. Everything looks nice and impressive, and given that the texture pack has 128*128 resolution, players can see every grain of sand on the block in detail. To see all the details, just hold down CTRL with OptiFine installed. Thus, this is one of the main reasons to download and install this texture pack.

New plank textures

Forget about standard planks in Minecraft. Now they look different, or to be more precise, more voluminous. The appearance of the textures themselves has hardly changed, except for the fact that they began to look clearer. But as for the «volume», each type of plank now looks more interesting and attractive. All wood has the same pattern, so it only differs in color.

Logs

Roughly the same applies to all types of logs in Minecraft. Now they have clear edges and different patterns, perfectly visible when zoomed in. It looks nice and generally changes the game for the better. If a player's house is built mostly from logs and new types of planks, the texture pack will significantly change its appearance.

Wool and Ceramics

These blocks have minor changes that are generally not as significant compared to the rest and do not really stand out. But when compared with the vanilla version of the game, the changes are certainly noticeable. Below you can see some screenshots that roughly show what different types of wool and ceramics will look like in the game. By the way, Minecraft has a great map called Wool Conquest where players compete to collect wool by completing various tasks. We also did a detailed review of it, so we recommend that you check it out and download the map.

Copper Blocks

The copper blocks in the game have also been detailed, but you won't see any special «volume» here either. In general, they look nice and interesting, especially when you see how copper blocks acquire new properties, changing their color in the process.

Different types of bricks

Many bricks in Minecraft, from ordinary to mossy stone, have changed. Each block here has a clear outline and a certain pattern that is different from the others. This option is great for builders as they can use different types of blocks to create some cool buildings with well thought-out exteriors and interiors. Keep this in mind if you decide to install the Another Bare Bones PBR texture pack.

As you already understood from the article, the changes mainly affected blocks. Items, armor, tools, potions, and other game elements in Minecraft did not change. The developer focused primarily on blocks to give them a new look by changing their properties. For example, they can reflect light and cast shadows, have protrusions and bumps in some places, and highlight certain properties of particular blocks in the game.

To sum up, the Another Bare Bones PBR texture pack is well implemented and meets all expectations. We remind you that the pack uses PBR technology, which makes items look more «voluminous». For its proper operation and high quality of detail, you need to install a shader. You can choose any shader that supports such textures among the large number of shaders that we’ve posted. For example, you can use BSL Shaders, Sildurs (we posted almost all versions of it), Kappa, Complementary, and others.
