Better Villages – New generation of villages

By default, the game offers a large number of different structures and locations, where a player can interact with different creatures, characters, destroy bosses and mobs, get valuable resources, and much more. But not all of them can boast of fine details and interesting generation, and now we are talking about villages with inhabitants. In the standard game version, you can see a few different villages depending on the biome, but they all look alike and aren’t of any «value» if compared to a real settlement or at least something resembling one.

We’ve prepared a review of the Better Villages data pack, which adds a completely new type of generation of villages with inhabitants to Minecraft – from now on, they will look absolutely different. The author gradually adds the changes. Thus, in the current version 1.19.2, you can see the generation only for a normal village that appears in fields and forests. This doesn’t include savannah, deserts, and other biomes – there, all locations will remain as Mojang developers meant them to be.

However, in the future the author plans major updates, as he writes on his page, so it’s not the last version of this data pack and there will be major updates for all the rest villages in Minecraft. Anyway, be sure to install and try this update to see new things the developer offers you.

With this data pack, the standard villages in the game have really significantly transformed. Just look at what a settlement with inhabitants looks like now. If you compare the «Before» and «After» condition, the difference is unbelievable. Not every player can build something like this, let alone a standard generation in the game.

The developer of this pack has added a large number of different buildings to the village , so that they differ and are intended for particular purposes. For example, there is a mill and a farm with vegetable beds next to it. Farmers grow different vegetables, keep working, planting, and reaping harvest all the time.

There are several residential buildings, which are used for peasants to sleep at night, to hide from mobs, for example, from zombies attacking spontaneously at nighttime. But unlike the vanilla version, where there was no interior, no coziness, now there is enough of it here, and it’s up to the player to decide whether to dd something or not. Even if you find an absolutely empty village, you can make it inhabited by accommodating a few residents or just by spawning them up with the summon egg.

In the center of the village is a small fountain, but it’s not a common rounded but a very strange one, although it looks nice and complements the architecture. Nearby, a few residents plant different flowers, decorate their houses, and just move from one location to another. Each local house has windows with windowsills, flower pots, doming roofs, attics, and other elements that emphasize the general style of architecture.

In the village, you can find a church, and if you want to pray or just to gather to discuss something, you can enter this building, where there is quite a lot of space. The walls here are decorated with valuable resources, and if the player needs them – you can try to «borrow them forever», but all this beauty will «dissapear». So, if you want to get more ore or resources, look at the chests that appear in various houses. Here, you can find Netherite armor, valuable resources, tools, and food.

Inside the houses, you will find tables, music blocks, a large number of flower pots, different rooms, where you can place beds for inhabitants, transitions from one level to another, a unique and interesting interior style, and other important details. In general, this mod has significantly transformed the entire exterior and interior in Minecraft, that’s why it’s so popular: at the time of writing this review, more than 21,000 users have downloaded it.

Besides, the developer of this data pack has not only reworked the village appearance, but the loot that appears in the chests as well. Now, players will be additionally motivated to look for these biomes with settlements to enjoy their view, architecture, additional items, and armor that will help you survive in this vast world. You can pick up the items only once, so if you take all the loot out of the village, nothing will be generated here in the future, although you can download an additional mod for this purpose that allows to re-loot any structures.

The structure and area of the village in Minecraft became larger, that’s not only the buildings that the generation affected, but the territory and landscape as well. You can notice such locations from afar, especially if you have a large chunks upload. Despite all the changes in the generation, you can still search for villages and find them using automated services.

Just keep in mind that most of the innovations apply to the settlements in ordinary biomes only: fields and forests. In the future, the developer promises to add updated versions for the rest biomes: savannah, the snow biome, dark forest, and others. The houses and buildings may look alike, but there still will be differences, otherwise the pack developer would have released a single version for all the Minecraft villages and that would be it.

What can be said to conclude? It’s a cool and well-balanced game generation, which the guys from Mojang couldn’t get down to for many years. With data packs, enthusiasts received an additional opportunity to create their own mods and add-ons that are as well-balanced as possible and don’t require users to install any third-party libraries. Any Dung, mob, structure, and other elements can be changed in Minecraft without additional .jar files, which is more than beneficial for performance.
