Review Armor Reimagined! [Java]

Armor Reimagined! [Java] is a resource pack that redesigns armor, which has long needed a major overhaul. What do you personally think about this element of the game? Overall, it can be boiled down to the fact that it is a layer of protection over the player. However, in the realities of the base game it is made rather generically and clumsily, offering no real depth and bearing little resemblance to actual medieval armor with a similar theme. The author moved away from this idea and tried to implement something more interesting and meaningful. This is how the current armor was born — executed at a much higher quality on all fronts, which is especially clearly visible on armor stands. Let’s go over the details.

A new foundation

Let’s start with the main point. First of all, the dimensions of the armor and how exactly it covers the body were reconsidered. Boots changed the least in this regard. They are still focused on the legs and do not extend beyond them. Helmets are more interesting. In their case, the front part was reworked, and it also depends on the type of armor you are wearing (leather and diamond variants will differ). The chestplate is now divided into a torso piece and arm guards, which protect the character’s hands. This particular armor piece raised the most questions before, since it simply looked like a solid T-shirt that left the arms completely exposed (except for the shoulders). That is no longer the case here. And finally, the leggings, which have visually changed the most. The reason is that they stylistically protect both the player’s legs and their torso (especially the abdominal area). This is the element that stands out the most, serving as the foundation for all other parts.

Material differences

We already mentioned above that the appearance of armor depends on its rarity. But this does not mean that “weak armor looks bad and good armor looks great.” It means that each material is very well conveyed by the author and clearly reflects the crafting process. As an example, let’s take armor made from animal hides. It clearly shows not only leather elements, but also a white fur lining, which retains heat well and provides at least some protection (this approach most closely resembles padded armor). Brown still remains the primary color, but white and black are also present here, which positively affects the overall design. The same can be said about the other armor sets, which are now far from monotone.

Realism

All of the above was meant to lead to the point that Armor Reimagined! [Java] does an excellent job of conveying the very essence of armor and its more canonical appearance. Armor is not just a piece of metal worn on bare skin. It consists of many components and parts that differ depending on the chosen materials. The author visually conveys this aspect very well, and nothing more is really required from a resource pack. Perhaps you, like us, felt that the base armor lacks plausibility and interesting (non-flamboyant) designs. In that case, this resource pack will most likely appeal to you. It does not try to create magical or purely beautiful armor, but instead focuses on how it would actually be worn by the player and how realistic it would be. It is especially pleasant to observe all these changes on armor stands, which truly reflect the full beauty of the armor. You can familiarize yourself with the project personally via the link below.
