Abyssal Ascent is quite a unique Minecraft modpack that offers the player a completely new experience. Instead of the usual survival, which comes first in the regular game, here a whole adventure awaits the player. You will find yourself not in the usual world, but in underground catacombs deep beneath the earth. The map will be divided into many procedurally generated segments, and you will have to go through them all to reach the very bottom. This is accompanied by interesting quest chains, detailed training, the ability to flexibly choose your equipment, and various enemies, each with its own style. But let's start from the beginning.

The modpack is an adventure with a storyline. You will appear on the starting level with a single guidebook and initial equipment. Each such level has a portal that allows you to move even lower. There are 12 such stages in total. Each of them has its own gradually increasing difficulty. But don’t relax, because even in the starting zone there are separate mobs and even entire locations capable of killing you due to a moment of inattention.

Although there are 12 dimensions, the biomes that can appear in them total as many as 50. So don’t be surprised if you see them intersecting — this is quite natural and adds variety to each level. And at the very bottom, the player will find only one location, the completion of which will allow him to return to the surface and forget about all the horrors that happened before. The biomes themselves can either take the existing ones from the original game as a basis and be improved, or be completely unique. The latter include the starting biome, which is a green plain with ruins. There are plants and even nutritious fruits here that can feed you. But you are not alone here, so even for food you sometimes have to fight.

Let’s move on to the second largest section of changes. It concerns the mobs that the player encounters along the way. And here everyone will find something interesting. The modpack has more than one mob responsible for the variety of aggressive and neutral monsters, so they may differ from case to case. Let’s take two examples:
· Rotghor. An aggressive inhabitant of the plains in the starting location. A large-sized mob with unnatural speed. Can hunt alone or with the support of allies. He relies on his pressure and relentlessness, while also being well-armored and durable. Considered a common enemy that can be encountered while exploring the world.
· Pyromancer. A mini-boss that lives in a lonely tower. He is neutral, but when attacked, he will be ready to retaliate. From the name, it is clear that he is an expert in fire spells. In terms of combat style, he can be compared to a blaze. When possible, he tries to retreat and use simple spells to fight the player. Not as durable as Rotghor, but if necessary, he can use healing potions to patch up his own wounds.

These are just a few examples, but even these two mobs differ in their behavior and fighting style. Dungeon inhabitants can be neutral and even peaceful, flying and running, frightening and deceptively cute, etc. Even ordinary dwellers can sometimes surprise. And that’s not to mention unique enemies with their own abilities and even locations designed to reveal their potential. So how can a player fight all these enemies to reach the overworld? Mobs drop equipment to help us. Let’s talk about that.

Together with the enemies, the modpack brings weapons and armor designed to help us out. These include various melee, ranged, and magical weapons. All of them have different characteristics, range, and attack speed. Some of them have special effects or unique moves that allow creating entire combinations. Moreover, no one forbids you from using different weapons depending on the situation. And it’s not limited only to primitive or magical tools. How about, for example, a void grenade launcher? Though it’s a rare and exotic weapon, you can definitely use it — it fits the world quite well. Of course, it requires ammunition, but the effect will be impressive. Combining equipment and its characteristics will help you flexibly adapt your character to your own style, making it easier to clear dungeons of ordinary enemies or destroy individual bosses.

It will be not easy for a beginner to dive into such a project from scratch. That’s why the author has provided a system of quests and training to help. You should first of all be attracted by the gameplay and immersion, not distracted by the need to look for external sources to learn important information. The main things are described here and divided into chapters right in the starting book you receive at spawn. In these sections, you’ll get acquainted with the world, stages of the game, and records. There are notes about food, equipment, monsters, traps, and more. This book will fill up as you play, forming a full encyclopedia you can consult at any time for information.

If we talk about the modifications that form the basis of Abyssal Ascent, they are:
· TerraBlender. A mod responsible for adding new biomes. It skillfully combines them and creates optimal places for structures.
· Awesome dungeon nether. This mod updates the thematic Nether biomes, fitting them into the modpack’s reality. It is also responsible for the final dungeon — the player’s trial — located at the very bottom.
· Xaero’s minimap. The good old minimap with flexible configuration in the corresponding section. It helps you navigate better in dungeons and not get lost during exploration, allowing you to leave various markers or pointers.
· Aquamirae. A mod that introduces new creatures and equipment elements into the game. It is the main one for adding new fauna and is also responsible for armor and weapons.

Abyssal Ascent is a complex adventure with a specific goal — to get to the surface from the deepest depths. And it’s ironic that the path upward lies below everything else in the dungeon. Along the way, you’ll encounter portals guarded by dangerous monsters and beasts. The difficulty will gradually increase, and the enemies will gain new abilities. Here it’s important not only to fight but also to survive. Through all the trials will pass not the strongest, but the most adaptable. Will you be able to do it?
