How often have you played horror games? Would you like to feel a similar atmosphere in the Minecraft game, which implies a big quest and a large number of different tasks, secrets, and scary stories? Then you should download The Monastery map, where the player enters the monastery and must get out of this ill-fated place, moving from one room to another and performing various tasks along the way.

In general, Minecraft provides plenty of different horror maps, but not all of them can boast of a real creepy «atmosphere». Creating an ominous building is not a problem. Sometimes you can even copy it from other maps, movies, or video games. But it is rather difficult to make your own map filled with fear, anxiety, and despair. Besides, it will be a great success if your locations attract attention and cause genuine interest among users. The author of the Monastery map has finally achieved this goal, although with some insignificant flaws...

The Monastery Map Overview

You start with a small room where you are advised to turn up the volume or put on headphones to fully enjoy the atmosphere around you. The map adds custom soundtracks and sounds, which greatly escalates the situation. This adds more horror and chaos. However, those who love horror games will surely like these effects!

Attention! Together with the map, you will also download THE MONASTERY 1.3 Resource Pack. It is used to create the very atmosphere that you see in the screenshots taken specifically for this map. We recommend installing it to get a similar picture. Although the textures have low resolution, they look great and fit perfectly into the horror genre.

The Main Building of the Monastery

Once you agree to start playing the map, you will enter the monastery, which is the main building on this map. This is where the fun begins. The monastery consists of one building, where you can find a tower with several floors and a large hall with different rooms. Some of them lead to a cellar, which also houses various types of underground passages and secret rooms.

From the first minute you start playing, you are immersed in complete chaos and an eerie atmosphere, especially if you use the standard texture pack of this map, which escalates the situation even more. You can move around this location or immediately «dive» into the hatch, pass through a large corridor, and enter an underground passage. Yes, the main building and the big «square box» (this is another building with different tasks and locations) are connected by an underground tunnel, which is hidden inside the mountain that separates one building from another.

Catacombs

The spooky atmosphere is reinforced by some dramatic tension. Numerous danger-of-death signs warn visitors of potentially fatal hazards or call to struggle for life. You cannot quickly pass through the underground tunnel since there are also various hidden passages, caves, torture rooms, and much more. The creator of this map has most likely watched a lot of «horrors» since some moments are obviously borrowed from popular movies.

As soon as you move from one building to another, you find yourself in a large room. In general, if you look at this «box» from above, it somehow resembles a quarry or some kind of processing workshop, but there is no production here…

Large «Box» Building

The next building has a large number of different rooms, premises, and hidden passages. However, this building looks much worse than the previous one, and it doesn’t suit the style of the monastery. It is surrounded by a large«flat area», so the local atmosphere has nothing to do with real horror.

The locations are filled with dilapidated rooms, hanging crosses with heads, a large number of bookshelves, bonfires, and other attributes that show you all the horror and chaos of this map. According to the author’s idea, the player must experience the truly terrible things that are happening here.

One of the most interesting rooms is Father Lawrence Room. Here you can find a TV set that looks like the TV set from the «Saw» movie. The picture on the screen is chosen to create an eerie atmosphere. In front of the TV set, there is Lawrence’s head. To reach this location, the player has to overcome a long and difficult way.

As a result, we can say that the Monastery map is quite interesting, but it doesn’t reach the level of a high-quality and well-designed «horror». The map looks nice only because it uses a separate texture pack with modified user sounds and voices. Somebody’s watching you from the TV room, and this looks rather creepy. Moreover, the passage through the underground catacombs also looks great. However, the environment in the form of a «flat world» requires a complete redesign.

If you are going to use this map in some events, we recommend that you redesign it and add even more interesting passages, as well as change the structure and architecture of the «big box». You can also take some locations from our «Maps» section.
