Review Aves Islands

Aves Islands: Adventures in an Island Prison

Aves Islands is another adventure map where the player finds themselves in prison and has to get out of it using various tricks, secret tactics, and inventiveness. The author has added a large number of Easter eggs and hidden content, so you will have to work hard to get out of this structure. The map includes the main prison building, many territories with different zones, and adjacent biomes.

There are also several towns, railway tracks, a large number of traps, unique locations around the island, separate zones not peculiar to Minecraft, and many other cool features. In fact, there are two separate islands on which all the objects are located. They are completely surrounded by water.

Aves Islands: The Map's Features

So that you can roughly understand what features the map can boast and what its advantages are, we have listed the most important points:

· A huge prison building with a lot of different zones;

· Four villages made in a unique style;

· Two small towns, which have different styles and can boast many different structures, including industrial ones;

· Additional locations: temples, abandoned castles, small cottages, mansions, and others;

· Two separate islands connected by a big bridge: by default, you spawn on one island, but there is another one, which locates the second city.

· Different unique zones: snowy mountains, deserts, endless forests, and many other biomes, each of which includes an elaborate landscape and locations;

· Several large mines.

There are bombs scattered throughout the prison and beyond, so you will have to look for them or try to avoid them so as not to be blown up. Generally speaking, this map is a great option for playing within a closed zone, where you can arrange any events for players, including on a server.

Prison Building

The main feature of the map is the prison, and the entire storyline revolves around this building, although without a specific goal. It is located on one of the islands and occupies a rather large territory. The building is a full-fledged camp for convicts, where literally every minor detail has been thought out by the designer: cells, tables for visitors, warden rest areas, separate workrooms, utility rooms, storerooms, and much more.

The prison is made in the style of the 1950–70s. You might have seen similar buildings in the movies like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. They are in many ways similar, and the designer was most likely inspired by these movies when creating this map. There are a really large number of cells there, so if you use the building on a server, it will be quite possible to imprison up to several hundred players so that everyone has their own premise.

There are several floors inside (5–7), but almost all of them locate only cells. You can climb there by stairs closely adjacent to these rooms. The cells themselves are made of masonry, brick, and cobblestone. This looks beautiful and is quite historically accurate. Generally speaking, it is one of the most interesting prisons for Minecraft on our website. Despite the small number of its downloads (about 1500), everything is high-quality there.

There are also various passages between the floors, hidden locations, different rooms for staff, and special pathways for those who want to escape. However, there are also nuances to take into account, say, in the form of mines located somewhere inside and outside the prison The designer warns about this from the outset. So it is entirely up to you whether to be careful or just try your luck.

The prison territory is completely fenced, with towers placed at certain intervals. So it will not be that easy to escape it. There are several zones on its territory, such as play, work, and walking. They all differ from each other, although they are made in approximately the same style. Their system resembles typical American prisons.

There is a mine near the entrance, which is most likely a place where the prisoners work. It is completely different from the mines you are used to seeing in vanilla Minecraft, and this is another advantage of the Aves Islands map. The designer has manually worked on all the mines, recreating them according to real prototypes, so they look cool.

Adjacent Town

This map can be described indefinitely since it features two towns and a huge number of locations. But so that you can at least roughly understand what we are talking about, we have considered one of them. It features approximately the same style as the prison but with some differences. It is located next to the latter and has several forks of railways that lead to other settlements. However, it is impossible to move along them on minecarts.

The town has a railway station, several administrative buildings, living quarters for workers and staff, and a square where you can arrange fairs and other events. There is also a huge mine, also manually made by the designer. It has several railway forks to move underground on minecarts, which is very convenient for such locations.

The map's design suggests that the main idea behind Aves Islands was to create an island for laborers, where everything is tied to mines. They mine different types of ore and materials in the prison, towns, and small settlements. Some of the mines are interconnected and have intricate structure with different forks. But all this adds more realism and complicates the survival, which was precisely the designer's goal.

Surrounding Territories

As we have already noted, besides the towns, you will also be able to visit various types of villages, abandoned houses, destroyed locations, temples, mansions, and cottages. Some locations have been created by the designer manually, say, a biome with a forest where you can see huge trees. Such terrains will not naturally generate in Minecraft, as that is not possible. There are also several long plots for farmers where you can grow a large number of various vegetables and fruits. There are not enough villagers for this, though.

We recommend that you download the Aves Islands map if you would like to explore interesting structures, a prison in the style of the 1950–70s, and several towns. Look at the manually recreated mines alone! The standard generator and mods for Minecraft have never been able to do this, but the designer has done everything with his own hands without resorting to any tools. First of all, we mean a wide range of different uncommon locations, large islands, a railway network, small houses, and large biomes.

This is just a small portion of the map's features, as we have already noted at the beginning of the review. It is recommended to play with the standard texture pack, but all the screenshots in this article have been taken using Faithful, which only improves the visual side of each block, making it clearer. You can experience an FPS drop on weak PCs, especially when the islands are loaded for the first time. For more convenient navigation and other benefits, you can install some mod that improves the in-game map.
