Quart! – cartoon-style textures

How often have you seen cartoon-style design in games? For example, in Fortnite there are certain details from cartoons and similar styles, but it is still far from this genre. But in Minecraft many players prefer to use cartoon texture packs that allow to transform the cubic world graphics in a couple of clicks to such an extent that it will be almost impossible to figure out the types of ores, blocks, and items – so much their appearance has changed.

In this review, we’ll talk about the Quart! texture pack, which adds a cartoon style to Minecraft. It looks very unusual, doesn’t resemble the standard design of the game at all. It changes almost everything that can actually be changed, but at the same time it doesn’t overload your computer like many other packs, especially the ones with high resolution. Here, the resolution is 4*4 pixels, so take a look at screenshots first to see if this option is suitable for you or not.

Building blocks

Let’s start our review with the «Building blocks» category, which many models from Minecraft belong to. We’ve done a few screenshots for you from the administrator mode to give you an idea of what these models would look like in the inventory. They are significantly different from the vanilla version. Before, you could understand what item or block you see by its appearance, but now this task is quite difficult. This means nothing for some players, but for others – it’s a serious problem.

But not all is as bad as it may seem at first sight. Again, look at the screenshot of what the blocks look like if they are put on the ground. Indeed, the textures are slightly blurred, it’s unclear what material is used, but you’ll get used to it. Each block will complement others, and generally different materials will allow you to build something interesting and worthy, especially if you are well versed in architecture, design, and interiors in Minecraft.

Blocks of ore look much more interesting than ordinary building materials. We put them in a row so you can compare different options. Diamond and emerald ores look worthy, since each version of the block consists of several squares, illuminated by different shades. They will be easy to find in the mines, even if you don’t have enough light. The only drawback – low resolution, but this is also the author’s main idea.

It looks colorful and rather good, for such cartoon-style texture pack. You can quickly recognize any of these ores whether it is a mine or just a large moat in a particular biome. One of the peculiarities of the ore in this pack is – each block is shown not from the front side but from one of the facets, so you can see two sides of the ore on the screen, which is very unusual for such textures.

Tools and weapons

Let’s move on to the Tools and Armor category, which is displayed in slot cells in low quality. From the first sight, it’s not clear what type of material you see, what kind of tool it is, but you can finally get used to the Quart texture pack. The tools look better in the character’s hands, but not perfect. Look at the screenshots where we put several options with different tools: shovels, picks of different materials. Some tools look normal, while others have certain texture gaps.

Textures for weapons, such as a simple bow or a diamond sword, a Netherite sword, look a little better. It’s unusual to see them in Minecraft, but it was the author’s idea, and they are quite suitable for the cartoon style. Here it’s up to you – to download and install the texture pack or try another version, which we have described on our website.

Potions

The texture pack can’t do without potions, since players often have to make different consistencies to get extra bonuses when attacking or defending, to kill bosses. So, it’s an important component in Minecraft, including from the visual point of view. And here the player will get a slightly improved version of the textures in the same low resolution.

If potions belong to different categories, they differ in appearance: ordinary, explosive, and others: обычные, взрывчатые и другие. The author has added more illumination, different effects, but it is impossible to highlight them against other objects due to low resolution. In general, they remain almost the same as all other elements of the pack.

Alteration of day and night

The Quart texture pack has visually changed the day-night alteration system if compared to the standard Minecraft version. For example, at night the entire earth surface is illuminated by the moon, and this glow is clearly visible even without any shaders. It looks beautiful and unusual, and the picture will be transformed if you use shaders for this, but the low resolution of this pack won’t give the effect similar to the textures with at least 64*64 pixels.

Here, you can see beautiful sunsets and sunrises, and the author has added a lot of different effects and «goodies» in this mod to make the environment as bright and colorful as possible, despite the resolution of the Quart texture pack.

Mechanisms

One of the interesting categories in this pack are mechanisms, as they are often omitted. Here, the author updated this category as well, although all the items look different in slots: some remained almost the same as in vanilla Minecraft, the rest look a little unusual. For example, pressure plates are almost invisible in slots, and if you need an item of a certain color, it will be difficult to take it through the admin panel: you will have to point at each element and check the description.

However, the distributors, the observers and the ejectors have got about the same style, with a small muzzle, looking like a beaver, being displayed in slots. When installing the items, their appearance is preserved, and you see the same muzzle but with more blurry textures. A lecturing desk, target, different types of pistons, Res Stone blocks, and other no less important items from the mechanism category look cool.

We’ve tried to tell you about all the most important features and changes in this texture pack, although there are still plenty of them. The author wanted to make a cartoon-style pack, and he did it, although not perfectly. It’s due to the low resolution, although it will give you additional 10-20 FPS even if compared to the vanilla version of Minecraft. So, it’s a great chance to optimize the game if your computer is rather weak, and can’t do even with minimal settings with standard texture packs.

Quart is developed on the basis of the Bytecraft pack. But resolution of the latter is 8*8 pixels, and it is made by the same author. But here the developer tried to simplify many models, reduce the number of elements, and show them in a habitual way. According to the pack owner, this option is great for players who often create circuits of Res Stone and participate in PvPs, for which a large FPS is important. If you belong to this category of users – be sure to try it.
