Once upon a time, dinosaurs used to walk around the world of Minecraft as well – you can still find their skeletons when examining fossils on an archaeological table. And, no, you aren’t hallucinating, this is the Prehistoric Fauna mod that not only adds a lot of new content to your Minecraft, but also resurrects dinosaurs in their habitat worlds.
Before moving to new dimensions, it will be a good idea to understand what we are dealing with. And the best place to do it is the Overworld of Minecraft, or rather, its caves. It is there that three new blocks – chalk, siltstone and sandstone – will now spawn. These blocks are of little interest by themselves, but for the time of their origin. As you can clearly see from the generation of these prehistoric deposits, the chalk rock has the earliest origin and can mostly be found between zero and -15 height. Siltstone belongs to a slightly later part of Jurassic period, and sandstone represents the latest part of Triassic period.
What you can discover by mining blocks of chalk, siltstone, or sandstone is much more interesting. A fossil is a special block that drops special stones when destroyed. You may need these fossils for a few things.
You can craft a paleontological research table from fossils of any period.
You can use this table to study fossils in more detail, extracting dinosaur bones, nautilus shells of different sizes, as well as seedlings of rare prehistoric trees or blocks of wood from these very trees. Later, you’ll be able to build entire dinosaur skeletons from dinosaur bones and make a full-fledged Jurassic or any other period Park.
You can also use nautilus shells and fossils to craft beautiful posters with prehistoric creatures or full-fledged paintings .
Besides, you can extract the pages of an Ancient Journal from fossils, so that you can later craft the entire Ancient Journal and add the dinosaurs you’ve explored into it.
According to the mod, the time machine isn’t a mechanism, but a full-fledged dungeon with traps, a tough top-level boss, and a portal that will send you to new dimensions. For an unknown reason, it always spawns as poorly as possible, but it does it rather often, so you won’t skip it even if you want to.
Usually, the first floor of the dungeon is as dark as possible, which is why there are incredibly many different vanilla mobs spawning there. Creepers are especially dangerous in dark closed rooms, so be careful.
In addition to the mobs in the center, you’ll see a staircase leading to the top and two rooms on the sides. To the left is a treasure trove with a lot of bones and watches, and with much fewer useful resources. To the right, you can see wreckage of a portal to a new dimension. You’ll be able to collect all the blocks you need from it if you are lucky.
But before looting the treasuries, you should climb up to the Genos – a monkey-looking stone monster guarding the way to other dimensions. Be careful, because despite being rather clumsy, this mob is extremely strong and has as many as 300 health points.
Your task is to kill it and get the Gem of Time, which alsoactivates the portal. By the way, you can revive Genos using a large nautilus shell if you want. However, after the resurrection, Genos won’t give you the Gem of Time, and his head will no longer be a monkey’s, so this action is almost senseless.
You can craft the portal using portal frameworks with a 3 by 3 block square. But you need to craft the portal activator – the Totem – from the Gem of Time and any fossil.
Keep in mind that there can be three totems, by the number of dimensions – Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic. The dimension you will get into depends on which totem you activate the portal with.
To activate the portal with a new totem, you can simply break one of the blocks, then put it back and re-activate.
The Cretaceous period is the time of Triceratops and Tyrannosaurs, as well as other smaller dinosaurs. The flora and fauna correspond to the period – giant Araucaria and Ginkgo, tall horsetail, a lot of potential food that may well eat you in turn.
It’s quite difficult to move around the Earth of the Jurassic period. There’s a lot of tall grass that blocks the view, as well as small dinosaurs that pop out of nowhere and make it much harder.
Despite the widely advertised image, the Jurassic period is the most peaceful in terms of the number of creatures who want to kill you. The local dinosaurs are mostly herbivorous, but rather annoying. But if you decide to devour one of them, keep in mind that even the smallest dinosaurs have quite a lot of HPs and won’t surrender without fighting.
The period when trees were really big, and dinosaurs were small. The period when the first crocodiles appeared. When those who will turn into monkeys in the future, followed by homo sapiens, got out of the water. The time when it all began.
Simply put, this is really the most difficult period for survival, because dinosaurs are small and agile here, but trees and what is called grass during this period just interfere with moving because of their huge size.
The mod is suitable both for various vanilla Minecraft versions with additional content, and for interesting survival alone in an unusual environment. In this new dimensions, just as in the normal Overworld, you can grow plants, get food from dinosaurs, you can even breed some of them specifically for this purpose, as well as search for ores in caves and build houses.
