Exotic Birds – many new birds

The Exotic Birds mod adds a huge number of new birds to Minecraft, each of them with its own unique appearance, characteristics, and different species; it can lay unique eggs, react differently to the player and the environment, and is distinguished by its singing. There are more than 30 bird varieties totally available, and this is not the end, since the author keeps updating the mod for Minecraft and adding new species, so we can say for sure that this is not only one of the best mods for adding birds, but for animals in general as well.

The game has a wide range of functions. Besides the birds, it will also add different types of cages to carry birds in them and to catch them, unique and cool eggs, with each species having its own unique appearance, birdhouses, opportunity to search and interact with nests, a unique encyclopedia that contains all the information about each animal, incubators for breeding, and many other abilities. Nests

Probably, we should start with the nests that will appear on almost every tree after installing the mod. Since you have a large variety of birds, they will dwell in different biomes, and many nests will appear because of the high populations and numerous subspecies.

The nest is a separate structure, a Minecraft item, which the player will be able to interact with. You can safely approach it and see what lies inside. The chances are high that eggs, both identified and unidentified, will spawn in each nest (they can be determined using a special device, which is also available in the mod).

The player can manually craft the nest, so you can craft any number of such items anytime and place them on the trees to attract new birds to your region. However, you can’t use them for breeding, for which the game provides a special item – the incubator.

Eggs

There is a particular egg type each bird can lay. The chances are high that they spawn in the nests in those areas where a certain bird species lives. The probability that someone will hatch from an egg differs as well, but it can be increased by using special devices.

By default, in Minecraft eggs will appear with a hatching probability of about 30%, and it will be up to you to decide whether to increase this probability or not.

If you don’t know whose eggs lie in the nest (this is quite likely, since a few of them won’t be identified), you can use an identifier.

Devices for eggs

The Exotic Birds mod adds two new devices to Minecraft:

The egg identifier – if you don’t know whom the egg belongs, you can put it in the identifier and find out (it takes a little time, and the system always provides accurate results). By default, such eggs will have a question mark if they can’t be identified in the nest.

The egg incubator a unique device that allows you to increase the probability of the birth of a new bird by 5% for each use. This process is gradual, so you’ll have to spend a lot of time to get the result you want. But it’s worth it, especially if it goes about Phoenixes, which are very rare in the game.

Another way to increase the chances of a positive outcome is to use the fire powder. All the needs to do is to combine the egg and the powder in one inventory, and the probability will be 15% up; however, there the maximum probability is limited, so you’ll still have to use the incubator in the end.

Birds

In the Exotic Birds mod, there is a huge number of birds, over 30 species, and it increases with each global update, since the developers actively update their product and please the Minecraft fan community with new content. Each feathered pet has its own unique features, appearance, and varieties.

Ara parrot

A large parrot that attracts with its appearance and bright color. You can find 4 varieties in the game, ranging from red to blue birds. They look eye-catching and cool. You can use different seeds as bait, but you won’t be able to tame them. It belongs to the parrot category.

Budgie

Budgies are very beautiful, but small parrots that can appear in groups of about 2 to 3 birds. The player can find them in the jungle and savanna. If you decide to kill this bird, it will bring you 0-2 feathers, 1 raw meat and a little experience.

In general, budgies aren’t particularly happy to see the player, so will immediately begin to run or fly away upon seeing you. You can attract them only with seeds, for example, pumpkin or beetroot. Besides, you can breed parrots by feeding a few species at once. There are 5 species of these birds in the game, but the color mostly depends on the mother’s color.

Blue jay

The bird is characterized by a blue shade with a white breast; they appear in groups of 2-3 birds mainly in the mild forest biomes. They don’t take damage when falling, are afraid of the player and immediately escape if you approach. They lay eggs almost every 5-10 minutes.

As a loot, you’ll get 0-2 feathers, one raw meat and a little experience. You can feed the blue jay with wheat to get new nestlings. It doesn’t have any varieties, so you will always get birds of the same color.

Pigeon

In Minecraft, you can find pigeons in almost any biome where there is rain or snow. Like other bird species, they spawn by 2-3 in one group, and give 0-2 feathers, raw meat, and experience as loot. The game has 2 varieties of this bird – the dark and the light.

This bird has an obvious difference from other described creatures – they can be tamed. To do this, you just need to feed the pigeon with bread, but it won’t eat it after that. Thus, you can check which of the birds you have already tamed. Sometimes it doesn’t work from the first attempt since the chance of taming is about 1/3. As soon as it is «tamed», a small red ring appears on its leg.

Pigeon’s interface

The pigeon owner can interact with them by clicking the RMB: it will sit down or stand up. Moreover, if the pigeon is sitting, it won’t follow its owner. Another unique feature is the pigeon’s interface. These birds can carry special backpacks (made of leather), and you can give an item to each bird. Why can you need? Pigeon mail! Yes, there is such a functions in the Exotic Birds mod.

As a messenger, you can only use the pigeon that you have tamed and put a leather backpack on it. This is also done by clicking the RMB on the flying on sitting pigeon. But you’ll need to craft a special box. See below how you can do it in Minecraft.

If you put a special box on the pigeon, it will turn into a messenger and will be able to deliver mail just as in real life. For this, you will need to take a leash, and connect the leash with the box created earlier and installed on any block without letting the pigeon sit. You’ll see a notification that you’ve created a messenger. From now on, you’ll be able to send the bird.

In the game, pigeons will be able to send mail both to different distances, biomes, and through dimensions. If the box used for mail is full at this time, you’ll a corresponding notification on the screen.

Breeding pigeons

To breed pigeons in Minecraft, you will need to feed them with any seeds, be it wheat, pumpkin, or beetroot. You can also use bread. The color directly depends on the parents, but the game offers two basic shades only: light and dark, so there isn’t much to choose from.

You can also breed them using eggs found in the nests. Don’t forget that you can always use the incubator to increase the chances of nestlings to appear.

Woodpecker

There are three types of woodpeckers in Minecraft, and they look very impressive. You can’t tame them, but you can use seeds as bait. A few feathers, meat and experience fall out as drop.

Crane

In this mod, long-legged birds mainly spawn in rivers, swamps, and beaches by about 2-3 birds in a group. They attract with their appearance and big legs. There are 2 varieties, but they look very similar.

If you kill a crane, you’ll get 0-3 feathers, 2-3 raw bird meat and a little experience. No unique loot, just an increased standard drop. As bait, you can use different types of fish. Feed a few cranes so that they start mating. But there is an important rule: breeding is possible only between birds of the same type. If they differ in color, nothing will happen and you’ll have to look for the same species or try to breed them from eggs.

Babies are born of the same color as their parents. You can’t breed the second option from the first one by mating. In this case, you will have to look for other species in the water biomes.

Ground cuckoo

The ground cuckoo is a unique kind of bird, characterized by a long tail of a dark brown shade. In Minecraft, the authors have thoroughly worked the texture of this bird, although haven’t added any subspecies. You can use only seeds as bait; this bird can’t be tamed. But it has very beautiful blue eggs, which you can use to breed small birds.

Kingfisher

The kingfisher mainly lives next to rivers. You can’t tame it, but you can feed it with fish to breed. You can use almost all the main fish species available in Minecraft. In this mod, the author has added two kingfisher varieties: with and without a crest. They lay eggs that are by times smaller than most of the others.

Golden finches

Golden finches are interesting and attractive birds in Minecraft, and the author has created as many as 6 varieties of these birds. They appear in tropical biomes, such as the jungle, savanna, and plateau by groups of 2-3 birds. If you decide to kill a finch, you will get 0-1 feathers, 1 raw bird meat and a few experience points as a drop. As you can see, it is not particularly profitable to kill them even for feathers: they give much less than other birds.

They are afraid of the player and fly away when you approach; they lay eggs about every 5-10 minutes. If you decide to breed finches in the game, you can use any seeds. The color of the baby will 50% depend on the parents. That is, if you mate two different birds, the chance is around½ that the nestling will get the father’s or mother’s color.

Robin

Robin – an unusual, but far from the most beautiful bird in this mod. The game provides one variety only. It belongs to the flycatcher category and makes not very pleasant sounds. It’s impossible to tame, but you can use any seeds to breed it. It lays dark blue eggs.

Cassowary

Cassowary – a large bird that attracts with its appearance and unusual shape. You can’t tame it, but you can lure it with apples, beets, different types of mushrooms, and berries. It lays very large green eggs. There isn’t much information about it, so you’ll have to explore this feathered one to evaluate all its pros and cons.

Cockatoo

You can find cockatoos in the jungle or in the savanna. They spawn by groups of 2-3 birds, sometimes more. It depends on the density and the length of the biome. Sometimes, you can find a huge number of these species in the jungle. When killing a cockatoo, you get 0-2 feathers, 1 raw meat and a little experience.

The game provides 5 versions this bird species, which differ in shades. They look cool, and each of them is unique in its way. You can use seeds to breeds them, but only of the same kind. As a result, to get all the birds, you will have to find each subspecies first, and only then to mate them within subspecies. The color of the babies born are the same as their parents’.

Cardinal

Cardinals will appear mainly in forests, and they have a unique feature: gender. For example, females will always be brown, and males will always be red. This difference allows the player to easily choose which bird to put in a cage to take it home.

As you see, you can breed cardinals only if you have a female and a male. A miracle won’t happen if you feed two birds of the same gender. For this, you should feed them with any seeds, be it wheat, watermelons, or pumpkins. Cardinals lay eggs, although their size don’t correspond to their name – they are very small and unremarkable.

Kiwi

In Minecraft, you will find kiwis in warm forests. According to the mod developer, this is a small bird that appears in groups of 2-3 birds, but in most cases, there are by times more of them. As a drop, you will get 0-2 feathers, 1-2 pieces of meat, and a little experience. There’s only one variety of this bird, so there will be no problems with breeding it.

You can breed only adult birds, by feeding them with any seeds. A nestling that is born is always of the same color. Eggs are white, you can get nestlings both by the standard manual way, throwing the eggs, and using the incubator.

Hummingbird

Hummingbird is a small singing bird that you can lure with sugar. Indeed, it’s its unique and distinctive feature from all other birds. You can find it in the jungle, savanna, flower fields, and lush biomes. In general, it can spawn both by a small group and as a huge mass, if in a large biome.

After killing, it gives very little loot: 0-1 feathers, 1 raw meat and experience. It’s not particularly profitable to use as prey, since it will take a long time to catch. Sometimes, these birds fly around flowers, almost never stop, and keep circling in the sky. It lays eggs every 5-10 minutes. If you can’t catch a bird – use the nests to collect eggs, hatch them in an incubator with a higher probability.

The game provides 5 different types of hummingbirds; each of them has its own appearance and unique colors. Despite its small size, the bird looks interesting. To breed hummingbirds, you just need to feed two of them with sugar. The color depends on the parents, and the probability of what shade the little bird will be is 50% to 50%.

Kookaburra

Kookaburra isn’t a very pleasant bird, both by its appearance and sound. If you don’t know – they make sounds very similar to a laughing human, hence such a strange name. They feed on fish and lay small eggs. You can breed them using different types of fish. The born nestlings will have a corresponding color.

Swan

Some of the most interesting bird species in this mod are swans. They appear mainly next to rivers, beaches, and different biomes with water. You can see them both at the water and right in a pond. The author has added 4 varieties of different colors, which most often appear in the water.

These birds can swim, so they can escape from you both on land and in the water biomes. It’s not so easy to catch them, you’ll have to try hard. You can breed swans of the same species using any seeds. A born nestling is of the same color as its parents.

If you kill a swan, you’ll get 0-2 feathers, 2-3 raw pieces of meat and a little experience from it. It’s a great option to get a raw material, so you can build manual or automatic farms to get food. They lay huge white eggs, from which you can get little birds.

Lyrebird

Lyrebirds spawn mainly in small groups in the forest. You can meet either one or a few birds. They belong to the song sparrow category, and sometimes it’s nice to listen to their singing even in the game. They lay large eggs of a strange color and feed on seeds. You can also use seeds to breed them. The game has 2 varieties, but the main difference is its tail size.

Booby

Boobies are large bird species that always appear in the beach biomes in groups of 2-3 birds. Sometimes there can be more, but usually there aren’t many of them. By killing it, you’ll get 0-2 feathers, 1-2 pieces of raw meat and a little experience. They lay eggs every 5-10 minutes.

В The game provides only one type of boobies, so they can be easily bred among themselves. You can use any kind of fish as a bait.

Peacock

Peacocks always appear in the plains of Minecraft and can be of one of three varieties. They look very large, beautiful, and detailed in terms of textures. It’s impossible to tame, like most other birds, but you can breed them using any kind of seeds.

Pelican

Another bird representative that can be tamed in this mod is pelican. It appears in the jungles, beaches, rivers – generally speaking, at the water. It can appear either alone or in a small group of up to 5 birds. As a drop, you’ll get 0-2 feathers, 2-3 pieces of meat and a little experience. However, if you tame a pelican and kill it, you’ll also get a fish that it brought in its beak.

Pelicans are amazing birds that can swim in water, don’t take damage when falling from high above, and move perfectly overland. 2 types of them have been added to the game. You can tame them using fish, such as salmon or cod. But it must be cooked. The probability is about 1/3, like for pigeon. Sometimes, you need to try as many as 3 times to tame this bird at last.

Pelicans’ another feature is a separate inventory where you can interact with items, for example, pick up something or put it. To do this, you need to sit down, approach the pelican, and click the RMB. There aren’t many storage slots, but it’s quite enough. You can even pick up the food that it caught in the water, such as blowfish. Not a bad option to get fish, isn’t it?

Indeed, if pelicans are in the water, they catch fish about every 5-10 minutes and add it to their inventory. If there is no room left, they won’t go fishing. You can use paint to change the color of the ring on its leg. As with pigeons, it appears after taming the bird. You can breed them by feeding fish, be it salmon, cod, tropical fish, mostly raw. For training, it’s better to use cooked fish. The color of the nestlings by 50% depends on the parents’

Penguin

Penguins live mainly near water biomes, not only in winter ones. But unfortunately, they have no varieties, although I would like to see a few… They lay large white eggs and can be bred by mating. All you need is to feed both with fish.

Owl

Owls look pleasant and unusual, especially one of the species whose eyes shine brighter than the others’. There are only 3 varieties of them in the game. They spawn in cold forests, in taiga. If you kill the bird, you’ll get 0-3 feathers, 1-2 pieces of raw meat and a little experience.

By their appearance, owls belong to the medium-sized category. If you want to see this bird, check the trees. Most often they sit on the branches and make a peculiar sound. As soon as the player approaches, they panic and fly away, so it’s not so easy to catch them. In the dark, owls’ eyes glow, and this glow will be different depending on the varieties.

You can breed the birds if you give them rotten flesh, raw rabbit meat, rabbit paws. They can mate with the same species only. You can’t mate owls of different subspecies.

Magpie

Magpies spawn mostly in forests, no matter what type. There are a lot of these birds in the game, so you will definitely see or even hear them. They appear in groups of 2-3 birds, but in fact there are by times more of them. They don’t givemuch drop: standard 0-2 feathers, raw meat, and experience. If you kill a magpie holding something in her beak at that moment, this item will fall out as well.

Magpies have their peculiarities. For example, these birds can fly and collect various garbage from time to time: ropes, gold bars, and many other items. To make a magpie throw the item it’s holding, you should hit it (but you need to catch the bird to do this), throw seeds nearby so that it is distracted and opens its beak, dropping the contents.

It’s impossible to tame them, but you can breed them using any kind of wheat. There is only one type of magpie in the game, so you’ll get nestlings of the same color. By raising such birds, you can use them to collect various items: feathers, sticks, iron nuggets, gold bars, and other loot.

Ostrich

Such a large bird as an ostrich often appears in different mods, but here it’s only a separate bird species. It is well-drawn, two varieties of it have been added, and besides the author has added the possibility of taming and riding this creature.

They spawn in the deserts and savannas, drop 4-6 raw pieces of meat, 0-5 feathers, so they can be used in farms to an advantage. You can breed them using apples, berries, mushrooms, and beets. Feed two birds, they mate, and as a result you get a new bird, whose color will be from its mother or father with a 50% probability.

The player can saddle adult ostriches using a standard Minecraft saddle. Just approach the bird, feed it, and click the RMB. Sometimes you need a few attempts to succeed. To get off the ostrich, just press the space bar and that’s it. To remove the saddle, you’ll need to approach the bird and click the RMB with scissors.

Toucan

Toucan is an unusual little bird that you can find in the Minecraft jungle only. You can’t tame it, but you can breed it with seeds. There are 3 types of toucans in the game, but by default they are afraid of the player, and they will escape when you approach. They lay eggs every 5-10 minutes.

You can breed toucans only within one species, using seeds. They lay large white eggs, which you can also use to hatch new birds in the incubator or in the manual mode.

Duck

Ducks appear in rivers and swamps, about 2-4 birds in one group. They mostly swim and don’t come out ashore very often. Female ducks lay eggs every 5-10 minutes, the nests are located in the grass and on the beaches. They can be bred by feeding two birds with seeds. The game offers 2 types of ducks, and you can mate both. If you kill the bird, you will get 0-2 feathers, 2-3 meat, a few experience points. It can be used at farms for constantly getting meat.

Flamingo

Flamingo is a beautiful bird that has been developed in detail and has as many as 7 varieties in the game. This is one of the reasons to install this mod and find all the varieties. They spawn mainly in swamps and warm beaches. There is one subspecies that appears with a very low probability – about 1/80, which is «black flamingo».

The birds lay eggs from time to time and stand on one or the other leg in their free time. At this time, you can safely approach the bird and try to feed it. For breeding you can use different types of fish, but only the same species can be mated. If you kill the bird, you will get the following loot: 0-2 feathers, 2-3 raw pieces of meat, and experience.

Heron

Herons appear in swamps, beaches, rivers, in groups of 2-3 birds. They often lay light green eggs. There are no subspecies in the game, although even this option looks high-quality and attractive. You can breed them with any kind of fish. As a drop, you will get 0-3 feathers, 2-3 raw pieces of meat, and experience.

Seagull

And the last bird on this list is a seagull. In Minecraft, you can find it in the oceans, beaches, and other water biomes. They fly fast, and as soon as the player approaches the bird, it immediately flies away. It’s not so easy to catch, but the cages added in the mod make everything possible. They don’t receive damage when falling and after death drop 0-2 feathers, 1 raw meat, and experience.

For breeding, you can feed them with any seeds or bread. There is only 1 species in the game, so the nestlings will have exactly the same color. To increase the probability, you can collect eggs and lay them in the incubator.

Phoenixes

Besides ordinary birds, the Exotic Birds modification adds as many as a few species of phoenixes. Each of them can be tamed, has their own characteristics, biomes where they dwell, unique features, so we have dedicated a separate section to these birds.

Phoenixes are the only bird species in this mod that can’t be obtained by breeding. They are hatched from eggs, and this process is long and laborious.

To get a unique phoenix (by the way, there are 9 species), you must meet certain conditions. The bird type will depend on which biome the phoenix is bred in.

Water phoenixes

To get this species, you need to hatch it in the ocean biome. The bird’s main feature: immunity to water damage.

Cloud phoenixes

To get this species, you need to hatch the egg high in the sky, at least 128 blocks along the Y axis. You can make a huge staircase and build a platform. This feathered is also immune to water damage.

Fire phoenixes (usual variety)

Perhaps this is the most desirable and interesting bird variety, which is often seen in a standard appearance. A very beautiful texture, fire effects. It can be hatched in any biome, but you must place a lava block next to the egg. It will make the process faster.

The fiery phoenix emits fire particles when it is happy, and smoke particles appear if water gets on it. It is heat-resistant and doesn’t suffer from the high temperature of lava, fire, but water damages it. You can fly it in the rain, but it also does a little damage.

Desert phoenixes

The phoenix is bright yellow and can only be hatched in the desert. Doesn’t take damage in warm biomes.

Snow phoenixes

To get the snow variety, you will need to hatch a phoenix egg in a snow-covered biome. It is immune to water, however, it will take damage in warm biomes, such as jungles or deserts.

Twilight phoenixes

This bird is also immune to water, as most species do. To get the twilight variety, you need to hatch an egg under the full moon in any biome.

Skeleton phoenixes

The bird looks unusual, although not as beautiful as the rest of the phoenixes. To hatch this type, you need to put the egg in an underground cave. The main feature of the skeleton is full immunity to fire and water damage.

Phoenix of the Lower World

The Phoenix of the Lower World has full fire damage, and to get it, you need to hatch the egg in any Hell biome.

End world phoenixes

This is another interesting variety of the bird. The egg should be hatched only in the Ender world, and if you get a phoenix, it will take damage from water, but it will be able to teleport to another point quickly when being touched by it.

How to saddle a phoenix?

To saddle a phoenix, you will need to put a saddle on it by clicking the RMB with the saddle in the active slot.

Next, click the RMB to sit on it and start the flight. You can fly both in the main world and in all others. Just consider the capabilities of your pet, and the kind of phoenix you have, because they all differ and have both strengths and weaknesses.

If the bird dies when flying, and you were sitting on it, then the player simply falls down with the saddle.

Bird cages

To capture and move the birds quickly, there are cages in the game. They can be carried, put in inventory, quickly broken to release the birds into the wild. At the same time, the game has a wide range of cages to suit every taste.

You can find the way to craft these items below. We have posted some examples so that you understand how they are created. To catch a bird, you just need to click the RMB on it with the cage in the active slot.

Birdhouses

In Minecraft, birdhouses are used to collect eggs. The system will automatically analyze the territory 12*12*12 in size, in whose radius the eggs are located, and will transfer them to the birdhouse. Accordingly, the more structures you install, the more «harvest» you will be able to collect from different birds.

There are numerous «houses» to choose from, but they differ only in exterior. Below you can see how the birdhouse should be crafted. One structure accommodates up to 15 stacks at a time. If you place a funnel at the bottom, all the eggs will automatically get into it and then follow the specified route. As a result, you can create a huge incubator, where some of the processes will be automated.

Bird encyclopedia

We have compiled quite a voluminous material on the Exotic Birds mod, and I’d like to finish it with another very important item: the encyclopedia. This is a special book that describes all the birds from the mod. It also contains information about the species, possibility of taming and feeding them. You can see what a bird looks like, twist its 3D model, find out certain features. The English version has more information than the others, however, by default the mod shows the description in the specified language. But this information will be enough, because we have described everything that this mod offers to you.

If you want to evaluate the appearance of a particular bird or just to spawn it quickly, you can use the summoning eggs. In this mod, in the administrator mode any player gets access to both the usual eggs of any bird, and the summoning eggs, for which special thanks to the developer.
