A large mod that completely changes the cave generation in Minecraft. The mod significantly expands and complements vanilla biomes, as well as adds new underground biomes, filling them with new ores, plants and, of course, mobs.

With the Darker Depths mod, you’ll be able to use your familiar underground caves not only for mechanical mining according to the «dig ahead and don’t look back» principle.

When traveling, you’ll find three unique biomes filled with new ores, blocks, and plants. The most interesting of them is the Glowshroom biome. It has more vegetation than the rest, which can also be used for lighting.

Inside, you’ll find mushrooms, large mushrooms, grass and lichens, with all of them growing on a new mushroom soil. Alas, you can’t eat mushrooms, but their caps glow in the dark.

This biome is also unique due to a new mob inhabiting there – Glowstone Monster. Unfortunately, it’s quite aggressive to the player, because like all trolls it doesn’t like when someone touches its stones. Indeed, this stone bulk is strong enough – the monster’s HP level is by times higher than that of vanilla ones – as many as 50 hearts of anger and aggression.

The Glowstone Monster drops a Glowing cap. You can put it on your head, and it’s a unique item that any real miner will find extremely useful. While the player has the cap on, the Haste effect is imposed on them, which is invaluable when traveling underground.

The second biome – Molten Caverns – is interesting by new blocks only. These include Shale, Amber, and Limestone.

You can use these blocks for building – use a workbench or a stonecutter to get all the stone-like vanilla blocks.

Roots and dry grass appear among the limestone deposits from time to time. Most of these are just decorative natural pieces that you can collect and plant where you want. Or just ignore and let them grow further.

Also, deposits of amber and silver spawn most often in this biome – two new ores added by the mod. Currently, their mechanics haven’t been completed yet, since the mod is still under development.

Up to date, you can use silver to craft ingots and various decorative blocks. Interesting decorative blocks can also be crafted from amber, but you’ll need it for something else.

By melting amber in a furnace, you’ll get a new material – rubber, which you can use to create a single craft item – a rope .

Rope – is your way to explore the darkest depths quickly and painlessly. Attach the rope to the ceiling above the abyss and make it longer until the second end touches the ground. Next, just slide down it to the very depth. To make the rope longer, you must have enough of rope in your hand – one block-one rope. Click on the rope you’ve already created, and it will grow down by itself until it hits the ground.

The third biome – new caves – is generated extremely rarely. But if you are lucky enough to find it, be sure to collect all the wood you see. This is a new wood type, which doesn’t grow in the Overworld and drops no seedlings, so loot is the only way to get new blocks. You can use these wood blocks to craft all the vanilla items and blocks.

Besides, dust is generated in the mines, which you can collect and spread out in the rooms as a decoration.
