Ancient: A Ruined Town for Minecraft

An unknown, beautiful, and very remote city where you can hear silence, get closer to nature, forget yourself, or just enjoy the gameplay — an interesting option, right? Hundreds of thousands of different maps have been created for Minecraft, on which players can be active, pass various challenges, unravel mysteries, jump in parkour style, and much more. But there is also a special category, namely mysterious and forgotten locations, which concerns us now. One of these is Ancient, featuring a ruined city. There, you will feel an altogether different atmosphere…

It invites players to visit an ancient ruined city surrounded by mountains, snow peaks, and rough terrain on all sides. This civilization was once famous for its technological solutions but over time, the city was abandoned and its inhabitants died out, and only echoes of the past and numerous ruins have remained. The city occupies a huge area and is also tall. You have certainly not seen anything like this before, but the buildings remind us of The Maze Runner setting when it comes to the walls. However, the latter are five times taller here.

Overview of the Ancient City

Ancient and abandoned cities for Minecraft are not a particularly popular category of maps, so their choice is not that huge compared to, say, sky blocks, different types of parkour, and modern houses. So this save stands out from the rest and features unique and mysterious gameplay with a storyline. Such maps catch one literally from the first minutes and make you play for long hours, exploring the game world and completing different types of tasks.

The structure is completely surrounded by large walls consisting of different blocks, mostly of ordinary stones, stone bricks, and dirt. So it will not be easy to get inside, especially given that there are only a few entrances through which you can access the city center. Generally speaking, the designer's idea was precisely to fence the ancient city entirely, as if it simply fell into the ground or was initially surrounded by walls and then was eventually abandoned and remained buried inside such large defensive structures. All that looks unusual but implies too many blocks. So if you have a weak PC, the map will load slowly.

The area of this ancient city is not small, so if you wish to live there, you can easily build several large structures, animal farms, food farms, various types of mines, and many more different structures, as the territory is really huge. Thus, even with a medium chunk loading distance, some areas may not load, although that is quite normal for Minecraft. There is indeed a lot of land in the Ancient city, along with various kinds of vegetation.

However, it is completely overgrown. Have you watched Jumanji? The situation here is about the same — you will see a green, long-abandoned, and overgrown settlement. So to get through such a jungle, you will have to cut down blocks on your way, pave your path, or at least move in a parkour style. Such gameplay and mechanics were implied by the developer from the outset. You are left alone in this place, completely surrounded by walls, and such mobs as creepers, zombies, and skeletons, may appear at night at any moment, and you will have to fight them.

There are many free cavities and premises under the city, where you can hide from various cataclysms, but there is no lighting there. So if you want to see or mine something, you will have to install a lot of torches or lanterns, as is shown in our screenshots. Even so, it is possible, and even necessary, to develop a net of underground tunnels, as the city's area is not infinite, especially if you play in a team. You should keep in mind, though, that there are a lot of hostile mobs spawning there — but they can be used to create farms.

In the center of the Ancient city, there is a large tree created artificially from foliage and blocks. It is indeed huge, occupies the entire central part, and extends in all directions. You can even build a separate house on it, thereby getting a cool hut on top. It is solely up to you how and what to do with this tree, though, but it perfectly fits with a setting of an ancient city and the wonders of the world. The developer has manually added all the blocks and meticulously created this structure to make a massive and cool object that would attract players.

Unfortunately, players may suffer lags and crashes on weak PCs, as a large number of blocks are concentrated here in one area. However, it is enough to allocate more RAM for the launcher to avoid such problems. The Ancient map works correctly both on 1.19.3 and older versions and does not require any extra mods, texture packs, or other add-ons for the cubic world. However, with shaders, such a construction will look more vivid. We occasionally add screenshots for maps using shaders, visual effects, and improvements, but this time, we have decided to intrigue you.

It will be difficult to understand the structure of the city because most of its streets are simply built up with blocks of foliage, trees, and dirt. So you will have to clear up all that rubble to somehow restore normal life in this settlement. If you wish, you can install some colony-related add-ons so that NPCs perform various types of work and extract resources, and you gradually improve the city and monitor its living conditions. You can also settle villagers there. Indeed this environment allows you to do that, as it is not a flat world but a full-fledged generated map for Minecraft, but with an ancient city.

The walls that surround this settlement are not smooth but with numerous deformations. You can use them to make separate passages, exits, the Chinese-Wall-like protective structures, and different types of rooms, including for workers. You will thus get extra space for your residents and an additional level of protection, especially if you use modpacks that imply the possibility of raids by different NPCs, mobs, and groups.

Summing it up, we can say that the Ancient map is an amazing, albeit not perfect, city, the main highlights of which are its high walls, huge tree, and non-standard structure. However, to live in this settlement, you will have to put in a lot of effort. Nevertheless, based on such a map, you can develop a custom quest system, conceive a storyline, play an urban planning simulator, or just wander around for a few evenings, exploring each corner of the city. Everything is up to you — the developer of the Ancient map only gives you a suggestion, and you decide in which direction to move.
